Update on BBC Radio’s 2011 MLB coverage

by Matt Smith

Mlb5XtraHlI’ve received a number of messages in recent weeks from British baseball fans asking if there is any news about the BBC’s 2011 MLB coverage.

As of right now there has been no official announcement, but everything suggests that the USP Content production team will once again be bringing baseball to the British airwaves.

Producer Simon Crosse posted on the show’s Facebook page on Wednesday that he was “hoping to clarify plans for season today”, following on from his message on 5 January when he stated “MLB Winter Meetings Update: JC [Josh Chetwynd] on the squad for 2011”.

Those were strong clues that the wheels were in motion to bring the show back.  If the Radio Times schedule is to be believed, it’s definitely going to happen and the team will be with us at 18.00 on Thursday 31 March (Opening Day) for the Yankees-Tigers games.  This isn’t confirmed on the 5 Live Sports Extra schedule as yet, but there’s nothing else there to clash with it either.

So all signs point towards another year of baseball on the BBC and another reason to be excited about opening day.

Hi Richard. Yep, signs are certainly looking good. Will be great to have the team back on the airwaves in 2011
