BaseballGB Fantasy League open for 2012

by Mark George

The 2012 BaseballGB Fantasy League is now open!

This is your chance to pit your wits against the BaseballGB writing crew as well as regular site visitors.

Since setting up the BaseballGB league in 2009, we have had lots of fun with it, from the banter during the live online draft to the weekly battles against another manager’s team right through to the race for the playoffs and the final and are expecting more fun this season.

Despite registration only being open for a few days, 11 of last year’s 14 teams have already signed up, and with a maximum of 20 teams there is room for new players. This is where you, our readers, come in.

If you want to find out more about how the league works, there is a useful guide here. And don’t be put off if you are a fantasy novice, as there are a few useful guides to help you here, here , here and here.

So if you are a die-hard baseball fan who wants to take part, send an email with BaseballGB Fantasy League in the subject line to Mark at baseballfeedback@yahoo.co.uk

Can’t wait for another year of fantasy baseball in the BGB league. Should be great fun yet again, hopefully with a bit more success for my Cheddar Chasers this year. Best get going with the fantasy research!

I’d be up for this — but the email address listed doesn’t work?

Hey Matt,

How’s the league shaping up for this year? Any spaces left? I’m considering it but was wondering how much time it takes up. If I join I’d want to do it properly and give it my full attention, but am worried it’ll end up being a massive time-suck!

Cheers
Gareth

Hi Gareth

There are still a couple of places left as far as I know (contact Mark as above for the latest on that).

It really takes as much time as you want to put into it. There is a draft (currently set to 8 p.m. on 18 March) which is a lot of fun to attend and normally takes a couple of hours, but you can set it to autopick your team if you’d prefer or cannot make it. From there, the main thing is that there’s a minimum innings mark each week so you’ll want to check and spend a minute or two setting your team up at least a couple of times per week just so that your pitchers are on the team – rather than on the bench – when they’re scheduled to pitch. Other than that you can put in as much or as little time as you like.

Cheers
Matt

Just joined! Excited. Need to do some mock drafts though so I don’t get raped by you guys, this being my first time! Any tips? I’ll be reading all your reports from last year’s league and the links from the story. I’ve also read the book Fantasyland and will have to dig it out again for inspiration.
Cheers everyone. Looking forward to it.
Is the draft 9pm GMT on the 18th?

Hi Gareth.

First thing would be that getting tips from me probably won’t be much use to you or anyone, so no need to be worried!

Definitely do a few mock drafts to get used to the Yahoo system and to get some practice in making decisions, particularly in the later rounds.

The main thing is to know the league rules and scoring categories and to make a point to check on the day for any late injuries, just so you can factor them in to your decision making process.

Draft is at 8pm rather than 9pm.
