I don’t have the numbers to back this up, but I get the sense that baseball is getting squeezed somewhat by ESPN, compared to ESPN America, both for early and late games. This season started promisingly enough, with the games from down under and a triple- (may even have been quadruple) -header on opening day, but it seems to have thinned out a little since then compared to what I was used to previously. A Friday evening (U.S. daytime) Cubs game would have been a dead cert for ESPN America, but yesterday ESPN showed Euroleague basketball. I suppose we have to accept that under BT there is a much wider repertoire of sports. I also get a little annoyed at the constant bombardment of football, rugby and other promos during baseball ad breaks, whereas you never seem to get the reverse unless it is the World Series. Oh well, there’s always MLB TV.
Hi Jamie – I agree, it seems like there’s been a slight decrease and the non-showing of the Cubs game on Friday was one that stood out for me too. Normally you could almost guarantee a Friday evening game at Wrigley would be broadcast, but not this time.
Definitely makes MLB.TV all the more essential to follow the season.
