We haven’t had any no-hitters this week, which is a bit disappointing really. Still, several players have staked a claim to be deserving of the Performance of the Week award.<\/p>\n
Starlin Castro was moved down to the seventh place on the Cubs\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 batting order on Tuesday after going through a slump.\u00c2\u00a0 He went 2-for4 that day and then followed it up with a 4-for-4 showing on Wednesday, including a triple and 3 RBIs.<\/p>\n
Victor Martinez has been red-hot over the last week as the Tigers have won their last five games in a row.\u00c2\u00a0 V-Mart has gone 12-for-21 during that sequence, while batting in 13 runs.\u00c2\u00a0 Somehow I managed to leave him on fantasy bench during all of that.<\/p>\n
While some performed well as their team was winning, others had their performances go to waste.\u00c2\u00a0 Andrew McCutchen went\u00c2\u00a0 3-for-4 with two homers on Tuesday, only for his Pirates to lose 10-3.\u00c2\u00a0 Roy Halladay gave up one earned run over eight innings (striking out nine) and yet the Phillies still lost to the Marlins, while Ian Kennedy threw eight scoreless innings (8Ks) and lost 1-0.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
The latter was due to Kennedy matching up against Tim Lincecum, who watched the D-Backs\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 starter with eight scoreless frames but got the benefit of one run to help his cause.<\/p>\n
And we had a late contender last night, as Carlos Beltran hit three two-run homers for the Mets against the Rockies.\u00c2\u00a0 That sort of thunder would normally win the award, but another hitter has just edged it.<\/p>\n
The Winner\u00c2\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n Mitch Moreland gets the award this week because he didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get anything else for his performance on Wednesday.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n Moreland hit a grand slam for the Rangers off the A\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s starter Gio Gonzalez.\u00c2\u00a0 However, the game was suspended due to rain during the fourth inning with Texas leading 7-0 and the game ultimately had to be called off.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n As five innings hadn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t been completed, it wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t yet a regulation game.\u00c2\u00a0 That means it will simply be replayed from scratch on another day and all of the stats from the original contest will be wiped from the record books.<\/p>\n Good news for Gio, bad news for Moreland.\u00c2\u00a0 As an A\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fan I was of course delighted by the outcome (I did tweet #prayforrain and that was answered), but it seems only fair to give Moreland the award as some measure of consolation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We haven’t had any no-hitters this week, which is a bit disappointing really.
