{"id":11359,"date":"2011-07-09T15:02:04","date_gmt":"2011-07-09T14:02:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/?p=11359"},"modified":"2011-07-09T15:08:03","modified_gmt":"2011-07-09T14:08:03","slug":"mlb-this-weekend-derek-jeters-quest-for-hit-number-3000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/?p=11359","title":{"rendered":"MLB this weekend: Derek Jeter&#8217;s quest for hit number 3,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11196\" title=\"CovHlWE\" src=\"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/wp-content\/CovHlWE.jpg\" alt=\"CovHlWE\" width=\"154\" height=\"158\" \/>There is much to play for as we head into the All-Star break, but one man has more to gain than most.<\/p>\n<p>Derek Jeter\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s quest for 3,000 career hits might have already been over had Friday night\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s game between the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays not been postponed due to rain.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jeter only needs two more hits to hit the big 3,000 and the Yankees\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 two remaining games before the All-Star break are being played at 1.05 p.m. local time.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That makes for an 18.05 BST start and both games will be broadcast live in the UK: Saturday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s game on ESPN America and Sunday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s on BBC 5 Live Sports Extra.<\/p>\n<p>Those Rays-Yankees encounters are just two of an exciting group of MLB games that are scheduled to start before midnight UK time this weekend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday 9 July <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18.05. Tampa Bay at NY Yankees (Price &#8211; Burnett) <strong>*ESPN America<br \/>\n<\/strong>21.10. Minnesota at Chicago White Sox (Duensing &#8211; Buehrle)<br \/>\n21.10. San Diego at LA Dodgers (Harang &#8211; De La Rosa)<br \/>\n21.10. Atlanta at Philadelphia (Hanson &#8211; Lee) <strong>*ESPN America <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The hype surrounding the Jeter storyline shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t overshadow the fact that this is an important series for the two AL East teams.\u00c2\u00a0 David Price and A.J. Burnett were due to take the mound on Friday and will pitch on an extra day of rest.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no surprise that ESPN America has chosen to broadcast the Braves-Phillies game.\u00c2\u00a0 They are the top two teams in the NL East and a pitching match-up between Tommy Hanson and Cliff Lee is a genuine headline act.\u00c2\u00a0 However, fans with an MLB.com subscription \u00e2\u20ac\u201c not to mention those with an allegiance to either team \u00e2\u20ac\u201c may choose to look in on the Padres-Dodgers game as L.A. will have the exciting young right-hander Rubby De La Rosa on the mound.\u00c2\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sunday 10 July<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18.05.
