National Baseball League: Splits for the Flames and Mustangs, while the Bulldogs may have barked for the last time in 2011<\/strong><\/p>\n In the National Baseball League,<\/a> Richmond Flames and Southampton Mustangs held station in the race for the Pool A title.<\/p>\n The Flames (17-5) split a double-header with the London Mets, giving the Mustangs the chance to draw level at the top of the Pool.\u00c2\u00a0 However, the Mustangs could only manage a split from two fiercely contested games against the Southern Nationals, with extra innings being needed in both to separate the two sides.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n Those results mean that Richmond maintained their one-game lead over Southampton, while holding two games in hand.\u00c2\u00a0 All the Mustangs can do now is win both games of their remaining double-header against the Bracknell Blazers on 4 September and hope that the Flames slip up.<\/p>\n The Blazers themselves are still firmly in the playoff hunt as they swept a double-header over the Herts Falcons, albeit with the second victory being a narrow 10-9 win.\u00c2\u00a0 Bracknell currently sit in the sixth and final playoff spot; however they have a tough run-in with double-headers against the Flames (this weekend), the Pool B-leading Lakenheath Diamondbacks and their final games against the Mustangs to come.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n That may leave the door open for the Essex Arrows or even potentially the Croydon Pirates as it looks like the Mildenhall Bulldogs will not take any part in the remainder of the season.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n The Arrows picked up two wins on Sunday courtesy of a the Bulldogs forfeiting the games and they have a double-header this weekend against the London Mets.\u00c2\u00a0 If the Arrows could win those games they would have a great chance at making the playoffs. If they lose them, both Essex or Croydon could potentially still make the playoffs if the three remaining scheduled games between the two teams are played.<\/p>\n If, as expected, the Bulldogs are sitting out the rest of the year, that will hand two forfeit wins to both the Southern Nationals and Herts Falcons.<\/p>\n Finally, Lakenheath Diamondbacks gained two victories over the Croydon Pirates on Sunday to inch ever closer to capturing the Pool B title in their debut season.<\/p>\n AAA: Badgers disrupted by Olympic trials, Trojans improve to 19-0<\/strong><\/p>\n The Bristol Badgers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 games against the Richmond Knights had to be postponed due to<\/a> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Olympic trials being carried out in London\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.\u00c2\u00a0 That means their seemingly inevitable march to the AAA-South title will be made more complicated due to the difficulty of rearranging postponements and rainouts.\u00c2\u00a0 The Essex Redbacks were able to get their games in and they took full advantage by picking up two wins against the Windsor and Bracknell Bears.\u00c2\u00a0 Those wins leave the Redbacks 2.5 games behind the Badgers, although they have played seven games more than Bristol.<\/p>\n The Badgers will make up two of those games this Sunday as they have a double-header against the Oxford Kings.\u00c2\u00a0 The Kings, currently sitting in the third and final playoff spot, put a gap between themselves and the fourth-placed London Metros by sweeping a double-header against them on Sunday.<\/p>\n In the North, the Liverpool Trojans may have already won the division, but they now have their sights set on an unbeaten regular season.\u00c2\u00a0 They completed the nineteenth step of that journey with a five-inning, 16-3 victory<\/a> over the Halton Jaguars, with Martin Godsall picking up another win on the mound.\u00c2\u00a0 Despite the loss, the Jaguars remain in the hunt for the second National Baseball Championship spot, sitting half a game behind the Manchester A\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s, with Manchester still having five games scheduled to be played against the seemingly unstoppable Trojans.<\/p>\n AA: Bolton beat the Torrent, Rebels move up to second, Bisons grab two wins<\/strong><\/p>\n In the North, the Bolton Robots of Doom improved their season record to 18-2 following two victories<\/a> over Manchester Torrent.\u00c2\u00a0 The second-placed Sheffield Bladerunners had to forfeit their two games against the Humber Pilots, leaving them two games ahead of the Pilots in the standings with each team having four games left to play.\u00c2\u00a0 Sheffield are scheduled to play a double-header against the Oldham North Stars on Sunday, while the Pilots are in Manchester to take on the Torrent.<\/p>\n In the Midlands<\/a>, the Nottingham Rebels are now in second place after picking up two wins against the Leicester Blue Sox II team, while the Birmingham Maple Leafs were dealt two defeats by the Pool-leading Milton Keynes Bucks. That leaves the Rebels half a game ahead of the Maple Leafs for the second AA playoff spot.\u00c2\u00a0 Nottingham have two games left, whilst Birmingham have three so it could go down to a tiebreaker.<\/p>\n There will be a carnival atmosphere at Western Park in Leicester this Sunday as the Blue Sox celebrate their five-year anniversary<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re in the area, head along to enjoy all the baseball and festivities on offer.<\/p>\n In the South, the Thames Valley Bisons captured two wins against the Essex Redbacks 2 to draw within half a game of the Sidewinders for the second spot in Pool B.\u00c2\u00a0 The Sidewinders kept ahead thanks to a 15-5 victory over the Poole Piranhas.\u00c2\u00a0 The Guildford Mavericks need one win from their remaining two games to guarantee first place in the Pool.\u00c2\u00a0 The Mavs next play on 28 August against the Essex Archers.<\/p>\n This Sunday, the Pool A champion Latin Boys have a double-header scheduled against the Croydon Pirates III team.
