\"BgbFantasyHeadline\"Welcome to our weekly round-up of the BaseballGB Fantasy League competition. This is a mixed Head-2-Head league involving BGB writers and readers.

\nThere are fourteen teams who pair up in different combinations each week, making for seven match-ups in any given week. The teams battle over twelve statistical categories, gaining one point for each category they win.<\/em><\/p>\n

All the points are carried over into the season league table at the end of the weekly match-ups. The top six teams with the most points at the end of the fantasy season will go on to the playoffs during the last three weeks of September.<\/em><\/p>\n

After six months of the season, it all came down to this. Would the defending champion Orpington Isotopes retain the BaseballGB fantasy crown or would the Super-Sox win it all in a repeat of last year’s final?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Sox have done it. After finishing top of the standings in the regular season, Kev’s team\u00c2\u00a0carried on their fine form into the playoffs, defeating my Isotopes 7-4. The incredible Sox hitting lineup took four out of six categories and has been a strength all season long. Kev certainly helped his chances by nabbing Braun, Kemp and Howard in the draft (that won’t be allowed to happen again next year!) and mixing in supporting bats such as Rollins, Aramis Ramiez and Andrew McCutchen. Derek Holland won both his starts, while Brandon Morrow posted impressive numbers and Storen saved five all by himself.<\/div>\n

Pence and Berkman had nice weeks for my Isotopes, but none of my hitters could compete with the HR and RBI numbers being put up by Kemp and co. Kershaw won both his starts, Carpenter’s final day gem helped take wins and WHIP and Bailey had four saves. Overall, pitching was my team’s strength and the pickups of Berkman and Hosmer helped counter the disappointments of Crawford and injury-hit years of Morales, Morneau and Grady Sizemore. In hindsight, my infield was probably too weak, and I should have taken a bat instead on Ubaldo Jimenez on draft day.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/div>\n

The Stuff ended the season on a high by claiming third place after a 10-1 demolition of the Yankees. An offensive sweep was powered by Morse, Phillips, Teixeira and the late-inning heroics of Longoria, while Vazquez won twice and struck out 15. Strasburg helped the Yankees edge wins, while Montero, Castro and Cano all had nice weeks with the bat.<\/div>\n

It was a matchup of two halves in the consolation final, as both teams finished tied at 6-6, with SWAT taking the honours having defeated the Chasers 12-11-1 in the regular season. Miguel Cabrera, JJ Hardy and Jemile Weeks all had big weeks with the bat for Jiri, as his hitters took five out of six categories and Salas, Heranandez and Romo each had a hold. The Chasers dominated the pitching stats, as Lilly, Kennedy and Gonzalez each won twice and made the difference in strikeouts, ERA and WHIP.<\/div>\n

There was another close matchup in the battle for ninth, with the Bet just coming out on top 7-5. Asdrubal Cabrera, Soto and Hart helped Margaret take five offensive categories while Bell and Feliz each had four saves and Halladay and Romero helped take ERA. Beck ‘Nams had plenty of speed from Bourn while Shields made the difference in strikeouts and Adams had a win and three holds.<\/div>\n

And so ends the 2011 fantasy season – now we can all watch the playoffs without worrying about what the players are doing to out average or ERA!<\/div>\n
