{"id":12364,"date":"2011-11-21T13:54:57","date_gmt":"2011-11-21T13:54:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/?p=12364"},"modified":"2011-11-22T22:33:51","modified_gmt":"2011-11-22T22:33:51","slug":"dutch-outfielder-greg-halman-killed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/?p=12364","title":{"rendered":"Dutch outfielder Greg Halman killed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/wp-content\/MlbHlSq.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6025\" title=\"MlbHlSq\" src=\"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/wp-content\/MlbHlSq.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"141\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a>There is tragic news coming out of the Netherlands today. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baseball-reference.com\/players\/h\/halmagr01.shtml\">Greg Halman<\/a>, the Seattle Mariners and Netherlands outfielder, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mister-baseball.com\/gregory-halman-killed-home-rotterdam\/\">reportedly<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0has been killed in an incident in Rotterdam.<\/p>\n<p>Full details are not yet known, but reports state that he was fatally stabbed.<\/p>\n<p>Halman&#8217;s Major League debut came on 23 September 2010 and, as <a href=\"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/?p=9256\">I wrote about<\/a> at the time, it was a memorable game.\u00c2\u00a0 Although Halman went 0-for-4, his teammate Ichiro set a Major League record by notching his 200th hit of the season for the tenth consecutive time.\u00c2\u00a0 Additionally, Jose Bautista hit his 50th home run of the season in the same game.<\/p>\n<p>I noted that &#8220;Bautista has now hit the fifty mark once and that alone puts him in the record books.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe someday Greg Halman will earn a mention in there too&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly he will never get the chance.<\/p>\n<p>It is a sad day for all European baseball fans.\u00c2\u00a0 Halman&#8217;s achievement at making it all the way to the Major Leagues was celebrated by many and it is a dreadful shame that he will never be able to fulfill his potential, both in baseball and in life in general.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is tragic news coming out of the Netherlands today.
