{"id":13107,"date":"2012-04-08T13:26:19","date_gmt":"2012-04-08T12:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/?p=13107"},"modified":"2012-04-08T13:29:16","modified_gmt":"2012-04-08T12:29:16","slug":"tigers-roar-before-giants-vs-d-backs-this-evening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/?p=13107","title":{"rendered":"Tigers roar before Giants vs D-Backs this evening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/wp-content\/Mlb5XtraHl.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8367\" title=\"Mlb5XtraHl\" src=\"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/wp-content\/Mlb5XtraHl.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>There are no certainties in baseball, but when the Detroit Tigers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 owner Mike Illitch decided to spend a fortune on acquiring Prince Fielder over the offseason there was every reason to be confident that it would have a positive impact.<\/p>\n<p>Barring a bad break with an injury \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and the Tigers will hope losing Victor Martinez all year to a knee injury should use up a fair amount of their bad luck \u00e2\u20ac\u201c we all knew that the Tigers would have arguably the most destructive 3-4 hitters in the Majors.<\/p>\n<p>Fielder and Miguel Cabrera have wasted little time in living up to that billing.<\/p>\n<p>They both smashed two home runs on Saturday in a 10-0 demolition of the Red Sox, including the pair going back-to-back in the bottom of the fifth inning. It will be of no comfort to Josh Beckett that he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s unlikely to be the last pitcher to suffer that indignity this season, and indeed\u00c2\u00a0in years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday was the day for going deep twice. The Mets\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Lucas Duda, the Brewers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Corey Hart and the D-Backs\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Aaron Hill all enjoyed hitting one out so much that they decided to repeat the trick.<\/p>\n<p>Duda\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s double blow, joined by David Wright getting off the mark with his first homer of the season, made it two wins from two for the Mets over the Braves.\u00c2\u00a0 R.A. Dickey got the win for the Mets which would have pleased me more had I not made the mistake of forgetting to move him from my fantasy bench into my starting line-up.\u00c2\u00a0 That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s error number one on the season for me, sadly likely to be the first of many.<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Hill\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s two homers helped Arizona to their second win of the season over the San Francisco Giants and the D-Backs\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 attempt to make it a season-opening sweep will be broadcast on BBC 5 Live Sports Extra this evening from 21.00.<\/p>\n<p>That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s one of twelve day-games taking place today in the States, producing the first real feast of live baseball at a convenient evening hour for us in the UK this year.
