{"id":18310,"date":"2014-09-07T20:21:59","date_gmt":"2014-09-07T19:21:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/?p=18310"},"modified":"2019-11-10T11:40:12","modified_gmt":"2019-11-10T11:40:12","slug":"alcantara-and-azcuy-become-first-players-in-british-baseball-history-to-win-four-straight-national-titles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/?p=18310","title":{"rendered":"Alcantara and Azcuy become first players in British baseball history to win four straight national titles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/BannerCobb.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21469\" srcset=\"https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/BannerCobb.png 700w, https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/BannerCobb-300x86.png 300w, https:\/\/baseballgb.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/BannerCobb-585x167.png 585w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Last weekend, the Essex Arrows claimed their first ever <a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishbaseball.org\/news_article\/show\/415409?referrer_id=271910-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Baseball Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Their pursuit of a title gained a boost earlier in the year thanks to the capture of sluggers Edwin Alcantara and Maikel Azcuy and, having completed their successful title challenge, they created a little piece of history, as revealed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.projectcobb.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Project COBB<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>7 September 2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Edwin Alcantara and Maikel Azcuy have become the first players in British baseball\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 125 year competitive history to win four straight national titles<\/p>\n<p>Both were key players on the Essex Arrows squad that swept the London Mets in a best of three national final over the final weekend of August.<\/p>\n<p>The slugging pair have been playing together since both players joined the Southern Nationals in their founding year of 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The Nationals became the first British baseball team to win three titles in their first three seasons of existence but this year they fell to the London Mets in the wildcard final.<\/p>\n<p>Alcantara and Azcuy moved to the Arrows during the last offseason and, in winning the championship with their new club this year, added their names to a list now 17 strong of players with four or more national titles.
