It’s a slow start to the week for British fans, with no early games on Monday or Tuesday to enjoy. Thankfully, the rest of the working week brings us ten games that start at a convenient British evening time, with Thursday providing plenty of choice in particular. \n<\/strong>Another day when we come up empty. There are two great pitching match-ups in prospect in the early hours of Wednesday, as Fausto Carmona pitches against Andy Pettitte (00.05) and Carlos Zambrano squares off with Aaron Harang (00.10). Randy Johnson makes his fifth start of the season for the D-Backs against Adam Eaton and the Phillies (02.40), while Jair Jurrjens looks to continue his impressive season against Chris Young and the Padres (midnight).<\/p>\n
\n<\/strong>Some live games at last! Following Rich Hill’s demotion to Triple A, Jon Lieber is slated to move out of the pen and to take the start for the Cubs against the Reds (17.35). The Great American Ballpark probably isn’t the place Lieber would have chosen for his debut start of the season, but the Reds have been scuffling of late so he will fancy his chances of making a good impression. Starting at 20.10, the Mets take on the Dodgers in L.A. with John Maine and Brad Penny listed as the probable pitchers. Finally, first pitch for the game between the Orioles and the A’s is set for 20.35. Jeremy Guthrie takes the mound for the O’s against Joe Blanton, who has pitched a lot better this season than his 2-5 record suggests.<\/p>\n
\n‘Get away’ Thursday brings us six live games to enjoy. First off, the luckless Matt Cain pitches against Paul Maholm and the Pirates at PNC Park from 17.35. Jo Jo Reyes did enough in his first outing to earn a second start for the Braves. He will face the Padres at Turner Field (18.00), although whether the struggling Justin Germano starts for San Diego is questionable right now. Mike Mussina is quietly turning things around in New York. He’s won three in a row and looks to make it four in a home game against the Indians (18.05). There’s a clash from the AL Central at 19.05, as the Twins take on the White Sox at the Cell. At 20.05, Kyle Lohse looks to rebound from his mauling by the Cubs as the Cardinals face the Rockies at Coors Field, while the Phillies and the D-Backs meet up in the desert from 20.40.<\/p>\n
