\"BgbFantasyHeadline\"Welcome to our weekly round-up of the BaseballGB Fantasy League competition.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a mixed Head-2-Head league involving BGB writers and readers.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are fourteen teams who pair up in different combinations each week, making for seven match-ups in any given week. The teams battle over twelve statistical categories, gaining one point for each category they win.\u00c2\u00a0 All the points are carried over into the season league table at the end of the weekly match-ups.\u00c2\u00a0The top six teams with the most points at the end of the fantasy season will go on to the playoffs during the last three weeks of September.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

SWAT were the victors in the inaugural BGB Fantasy League last year.\u00c2\u00a0 Will they retain their title in 2010, or will a new champion emerge?\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

\nJJ’s Beck ‘Nams got the better of my Isotopes, taking four offensive and four pitching categories. Paul Konerko and Ryan Theriot were JJ’s top hitters, while the bullpen collected eight saves. My ERA was ruined by rough weeks for Haren and Peavy while Miguel Cabrera was my star hitter.<\/p>\n

\nIron Men slugged their way to a 7-4 win over the Super Sox, taking all six offensive categories. Kurt Suzuki and Vlad Guerrero were the pick of the Iron Men hitters. Mike Pelfrey was the Super Sox’s star pitcher while Miguel Tejada was their best hitter.<\/p>\n

The Bats put up respectable numbers across the board, especially in ERA and WHIP which would normally be good enough to win in most matchups, but they could only manage to collect one win from Justin Duchscherer. Ript It had big weeks from Kendry Morales and a reborn Barry Zito.

\nBonestalkers picked up an 8-2 win over the Angels in a matchup which had a number of very close categories. Bonestalkers’ pitching staff came through to win five of the six categories, thanks to Danks, Randy Wells and a win and 10Ks in a week from reliever Tyler Clippard. Longoria and Damon were the pick of the hitters. The Angels had nice RBI numbers from Michael Young, BJ Upton and Bartlett, but fell just short on pitching, level on Ks and a win behind. There were no saves or holds from the bullpen.<\/p>\n

\nThe Pretzel Vendors got the better of The Wright Stuff to pick up a 7-4 win. The Vendors had plenty of speed from Bourn and Braun and hit for a much higher average and OPS. Price and Penny had excellent weeks for the Vendors while Lindstrom collected four saves. Mark Reynolds provided power for the Stuff, Kevin Slowey was the pick of the pitchers and Jepsen collected the matchup’s only hold.<\/p>\n

\nLast week I predicted SWAT would not stay at the bottom of the standings for long, and they are on the move after a 6-3 win over the Chasers. The two teams shared the offensive categories but SWAT’s pitchers took four categories thanks to Gallardo, Hanson and Soria. Colby Rasmus was the pick of SWAT’s hitters. The Chasers had a big week from Adrian Gonzalez, and De La Rosa and Kazmir each collected a pair of wins and plenty of Ks.<\/p>\n

\nWe end with a very tight matchup which saw the Spaniards edge the Waves 6-4 in a matchup where at least half of the categories could have gone either way. The Spaniards took four offensive categories thanks to Cano and Blake, while the pitching of Pettitte and Phil Hughes meant a narrow win in ERA. The Waves got power from Votto and Kelly Johnson and the bullpen won saves and holds.<\/p>\n

\nThe results leave Beck ‘Nams and Iron Men at the top of the standings, with Gript It n Rip It, the Pretzel Vendors and the Angels all just 1.5 games back. Bonestalkers are just two games back in 6th, while the Stuff are at .500 in 7th. My Isotopes are 5 games back, while the Spaniards, Super-Sox and Bats are 6 games back. There is a three-way tie at the foot of the standings, with SWAT, the Waves and the Chasers all 7.5 games back.
