It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not every day that you see a member of the Royal Family at a ballpark, but that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the sight we were treated to\u00c2\u00a0prior to\u00c2\u00a0the Twins-Mets game on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Prince Harry\u00c2\u00a0stepped on\u00c2\u00a0to the mound with a Mets cap on his head\u00c2\u00a0and threw out the ceremonial first pitch<\/a>. He made a good job of it as well.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a bit high, but it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s much better to serve up a bit of chin music than to leave the field to a chorus of groans having failed to reach the plate.\u00c2\u00a0 Jonny Gould always used to claim, somewhat mischievously, that\u00c2\u00a0members of the\u00c2\u00a0Royal Family watched \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcBaseball on 5\u00e2\u20ac\u2122.<\/p>\n On that evidence, maybe Jonny was telling the truth after all?<\/p>\n It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not the first time the Royal Family has shown an interest in the sport.\u00c2\u00a0 As Josh Chetwynd explains in ‘British Baseball and the West Ham Club’<\/a>, \u00c2\u00a0on 4 July 1918 King George V was one of 38,000 people, including Winston Churchill\u00c2\u00a0and the\u00c2\u00a0Prime Minister David Lloyd George,\u00c2\u00a0packed into\u00c2\u00a0Chelsea\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Stamford Bridge to watch a ballgame between the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy.<\/p>\n
