\"BgbFantasyHeadline\"Welcome to our weekly round-up of the BaseballGB Fantasy League competition.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a mixed Head-2-Head league involving BGB writers and readers.<\/em><\/p>\n

There are fourteen teams who pair up in different combinations each week, making for seven match-ups in any given week. The teams battle over twelve statistical categories, gaining one point for each category they win.\u00c2\u00a0 All the points are carried over into the season league table at the end of the weekly match-ups. <\/em><\/div>\n
\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n
The top six teams with the most points at the end of the fantasy season will go on to the playoffs during the last three weeks of September.<\/em><\/div>\n


\nThe first round of playoff matches saw eight of the BaseballGB fantasy league’s 14 teams in action, battling for places in the championship and consolation semi-finals. But which teams made it through?\u00c2\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe Vendors made it through to the championship semi-finals with a tight 6-5 win over Iron Men. The Vendors’ hitters made the difference, taking five out of six offensive categories. Rollins, Bourn and Holliday were the pick of a fantastic week for Steve’s hitters. Shaun Marcum was the Vendors’ star pitcher, with Lindstrom picking up a valuable hold. It was a tough loss for Iron Men, who had great weeks from Guerrero, Crawford and A Rod with the bats and Wainwright and De La Rosa on the mound.<\/p>\n

\nIf you thought the first matchup of the week was close, take a look at this one! The Stuff had the better pitching, but the Sox had the better offense, going through to the semi-finals on the tiebreaker of the regular season results between the two teams.<\/p>\n

Zobrist, Gonzalez and Wells had excellent weeks for the Sox, while Dempster was the pick of the pitchers. Kinsler provided speed for the Stuff, while Zambrano, Latos and Hamels helped rack up strikeouts and take ERA and post a sub-1.00 WHIP.\u00c2\u00a0 The Stuff would be in the semi-finals if they had scored just one more run, which proves the fine line between success and failure in a head-to-head league.<\/p>\n

\nIn the consolation playoffs, the Waves coasted into the semi-finals with an 11-1 battering of Rip It, who failed to pitch 20 innings but would have lost all the pitching categories anyway. Huff, Olivo and Votto were the Waves’ top hitters, with Lester the top starter and the deadly bullpen duo of Bell and Adams getting the job done in the bullpen in style. Rip It had a big week from Howard and speed from Davis and Furcal.<\/p>\n

\nThe Angels also advanced to the consolation semi-finals with a comfortable 9-2 win against the Spaniards. It was hardly a vintage week for offense, with both teams struggling to hit for average, but Upton, Rios and Molina provided power and RBIs for the Angels, with Lackey the pick of the starters. Ibanez was the Spaniards’ best player.<\/p>\n
