The first week of the BaseballGB fantasy league is complete.
After a week of big name pitchers struggling, unsettled bullpens and surprise teams, which managers are off to a flying start like the Marlins, and which, like the Nationals, had a start to forget?Â

What a horrible result for my Isotopes, thrashed 10-1. The result seems harsh, especially considering my team hit .290 for the week with respectable numbers in most of the categories, but fair play to JJ’s team for their hot start. JJ benefitted from Soriano’s power surge and two excellent starts from Santana.Â

Russ also got off to a losing start in a closely fought matchup against Chris. Russ left Mauer, on the DL, in his team all week, which cost him in runs and RBIs, while the lack of day-to-day pitching roster moves cost him in the wins and strikeout categories.

Tribal Warfare | 22 | 8 | 25 | 1 | .279 | .821 | 2 | 1 | 37 | 0 | 3.97 | 1.41 | 2 |
Another close matchup here, much closer than the final score would suggest, as AVG, OPS, W, K, HLD, ERA and WHIP could have gone either way. Tribal Warfare may want to consider putting Upton and Lackey on the DL and picking up pitching reinforcements.

Braughing’s Bangers | 32 | 12 | 39 | 4 | .283 | .952 | 3 | 2 | 40 | 2 | 2.45 | 1.20 | 10 |
Syracuse Nationals | 20 | 7 | 28 | 6 | .237 | .680 | 2 | 3 | 26 | 0 | 5.60 | 1.32 | 2 |
The Bangers’ offense paved the way for a comfortable first week win, with plenty of contributions from most of the hitters. Despite carrying four bench hitters, leaving him very light on pitching depth, a short-handed staff had a good week.

Joe suffered a narrow defeat in his first week as a fantasy manager. His bats provided plenty of power but a low average, while SWAT’s bullpen were going to be tough to beat while collecting sevebn saves. SWAT also had three hot hitters in Miguel Cabrera, Adam Jones and Nick Markakis.

Bonestalkers were outhit and outpitched by The Gas in week one. With Glaus, Guillen, Scherzer and Duchsvherer all on the DL, Bonestalkers need to use their DL spots and pick up reinforcements.

There wasn’t much offense in this matchup, which saw Matt defeated narrowly in six of the 12 categories. At least the Chasers’ bullpen looks strong for holds, with Kuo and Arrendondo collecting seven in a week.
So none of the four BaseballGB writers had a wining start, but at least in a head to head league ground can be made up in a hurry.

I agree been very slack with fantasy this week I think got to get my head around this fantasy leagues bit more. If nothing else to save face. 🙂
Russ
I checked after Saturday’s games and I was leading my match-up 6-3. So to see I’d lost 9-2 the next day was a major disappointment, to say the least! Better luck this week, I hope.
Nice roundup! My first week using the Yahoo Head-to-head rules was a tense one – I had no idea that scores would swing between the two matchup teams so wildly!
I was very thankful for the wild swings going on. A 5-7 loss is not the ideal start, but when you have a 10-0 deficit with 48 hours to go you are thankful just to avoid a whitewash.
I never really liked RBI until this week.
Thanks for the round-up, Mark. Keep it going!
OPS is a worse stat than RBI.
