BaseballGB Fantasy League 2017 Week 12

Week 12 of the BaseballGB fantasy league saw a heavyweight clash at the top of the standings.

Would Cheshunt hang on to top spot or would Norwich reclaim the place they have held for much of the season?

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Cheshunt Maltsters 34 13 30 1 .285 .879 5 4 59 0 2.06 0.85 9
Norwich No II 31 10 28 6 .216 .694 3 2 63 5 3.20 1.11 3

In the battle at the top it was the Maltsters who came out ahead, winning 9-3. McCutchen hit two homers, scored six runs and knocked in seven, while Jose Ramirez and Bradley Jr joined him in helping to take average and OPS. Kluber picked up a win, did not allow an earned run and struck out 24 while Osuna had two saves.

Gardner stole two bases for Norwich, who saw Bellinger hit five homers and knock in 12 in vain. Six different pitchers struck out eight, including Devenski out of the pen. Hand and Edwards Jr had two holds each.

Weston-Super-Sox 24 9 25 5 .240 .737 1 2 20 3 5.81 1.45 3

The Slugs defeated the Sox 9-3 in a matchup which was closer than the final score suggests. Dickerson scored seven runs while Zimmerman hit .368 for the Slugs, with Cano homering twice and driving in 11. Berrios had a win, eight strikeouts and helped take ERA and WHIP. Gordon stole four bases for the Sox while Maurer had two saves and Dayton collected a pair of holds.

Batteries Essential had reason to celebrate after defeating the Bombers 8-3. In a close matchup, Batteries Essential had the better of the offense as Grandal scored six runs and joined Kinsler, who stole three bases, in belting a trio of homers.

Morrison drove in seven. Gray struck out 12, Fiers helped take ERA and WHIP while Bedrosian and Neshek had a pair of holds each. Turner and Broxton each hit well over .400 and helped take OPS for the Bombers while Shaw had the lone save.

The Riverkings are getting closer to .500 after defeating Iron Men. Travis Shaw had a three-homer week while Murphy drove in eight and Inciarte hit .414. Santana led the staff with two wins and 13 strikeouts. Harris had four holds for Iron Men while Kershaw helped take ERA and WHIP.

The Knights picked up a 7-3 win against Jesmond as Corey Seager had a big week. He hit .538, hit three homers – as did Stanton – and knocked in seven. Montgomery had a win, struck out 10 and did not allow an earned run. Forsythe and Correa each scored seven runs for Jesmond while Bregman stole two bases. De Grom helped take WHIP by a hair.

Schoop helped the A&E Dept take average and OPS while Davis had two saves and Scherzer and Lester each struck out 11 and helped take WHIP.

Finally, the Isotopes did just enough to get past the Chasers 6-5. Khris Davis hit .345 and stole a base while Estrada struck out 10. Herrera had three saves while Watson had the lone hold. Straily made the difference in WHIP.

Goldschmidt scored eight runs, homered twice and helped take OPS for the Chasers, while Cole won twice and Quintana helped take ERA on a tiebreak.

Looking back at baseball at the Oval as MLB Battlegrounds approaches

The MLB UK Battlegrounds event at Hyde Park is now one week away. All the details can be found on the MLB UK Twitter and Facebook accounts.

When this was announced at the start of June, I took a look at some of the other events MLB has played a part in staging on these shores in the past.

One of those was twenty-four years ago when the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets sent some minor leaguers across the pond to play an exhibition game at the Oval.

I’d never seen any photos from that game before MLB’s Murray Cook took to Twitter recently to share a wonderful photo of the event:

Building a temporary baseball field on a cricket or football/rugby site always brings challenges and some slightly unusual field dimensions, but it can be done.

Here’s hoping MLB will be furthering their attempts to put a diamond in the London Stadium in the next few years.

MLB This Week: Last week of June

Incredible as it seems, we’re in the last week of June already.

BaseballGB Fantasy League 2017 Week 11

Week 11 of the BaseballGB fantasy league is complete – and we have a new leader. Read on to find out who has taken over at the top.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Cheshunt Maltsters 45 15 42 2 .353 1.088 3 2 49 1 3.31 1.05 9
Durham Riverkings 32 12 37 2 .298 .866 2 5 42 1 4.97 1.50 1

We have a new leader as the Maltsters go top with a 9-1 win against the Riverkings. Cheshunt fell a steal shy of an offensive sweep as four players had three-homer weeks, including Jose Ramirez (nine runs, .516) while Abreu knocked in nine. Vargas won twice while Kluber and Sale struck out 10 each and helped take ERA and WHIP.

The Riverkings had a nice week offensively and would have won more categories in practically any other week, but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles in H2H sometimes. They salvaged saves thanks to four from Jansen.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Batteries Essential 28 4 17 2 .224 .697 6 0 54 1 3.54 1.33 3
Richie’s RBI’s 36 8 33 4 .303 .926 2 1 57 3 5.56 1.58 9

The RBIs used an offensive sweep to defeat Batteries Essential 9-3. Carpenter was the pick of the bunch, batting .455 with nine runs, two homers and six RBIs. Tanaka struck out 18, Rivero picked up the lone save and Barnes had two holds. Six Batteries Essential pitchers collected wins, with Gio Gonzalez the pick as he helped take ERA and WHIP too.

Jesmond Dennings 29 12 23 3 .297 .885 0 4 21 0 5.57 1.71 4
Mighty Slugs 30 9 36 6 .284 .805 5 1 69 4 2.98 1.19 8

The Slugs picked up a much-needed win against Jesmond 8-4. Taylor was the offensive star, leading the team with five runs, seven RBIs and three steals. The addition of Faria really paid off, as he won twice, striking out 17 and helping take ERA and WHIP in the process. Ottavino had two holds.

Jesmond had multi-homer week from four players and took saves thanks to Knebel but came perilously close to forfeiting all the pitching categories after amassing just 21 innings during the week.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Orpington Isotopes 26 5 29 3 .262 .717 4 3 34 0 4.91 1.44 4
The Bath Bombers 28 11 28 6 .313 .983 4 1 55 3 5.67 1.50 7

The Bombers slugged their way to a 7-4 win against the Isotopes. Thames belted four homers, Turner swiped four bases, Cabrera scored six runs, Perez hit .421 and Brantley .600 in a team effort. Strasburg struck out 15 and Baez had three holds. Arenado’s heroics on Sunday helped the Isotopes nick RBIs while Herrera had two saves. It was hardly a great week for WHIP and ERA but Straily and Alex Wood made the difference.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Beckenham A&E Dept 33 11 32 3 .312 .929 3 4 48 2 5.23 1.28 7
Norwich No II 38 12 35 6 .297 .920 1 3 39 1 4.93 1.34 5

Beckenham knocked Norwich off the top with a 7-5 win. Rizzo made the difference in average and OPS while Lester and Scherzer helped take WHIP and had a win and 10 strikeouts. Allen had two holds and Rodney four saves. Walker helped Norwich win ERA and Belling led the team with seven runs, four homers and eight RBIs. Gardner stole two bases.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Iron Men 33 15 38 2 .284 .931 2 1 22 0 3.12 1.04 5
Newcastle Knights 26 4 19 3 .249 .661 3 1 53 1 5.43 1.55 7

The Knights defeated Iron Men, who failed to met the 20-inning minimum innings limit, 7-5. Rupp, Le Mahieu and Conforto each swiped a base for Newcastle while Bradley had two wins and a hold without allowing an earned run. Peacock had 10 strikeouts and Bush collected a save. Iron Men had monster offensive weeks from Cain (four homers, .458) and Encarnacion (four homers, 10 runs, 10 RBIs).

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
The Cheddar Chasers 33 11 40 0 .305 .881 4 0 35 1 3.51 1.17 5
Weston-Super-Sox 37 11 31 9 .342 .962 1 2 31 3 5.67 1.41 6

Finally, the Sox squeezed past the Chasers 6-5 in a matchup packed with good offense for both teams. Betts scored eight runs and joined Puig in belting three homers while Gordon hit .435 and stole four bases. Maurer had two saves and Madson picked up a pair of holds. Fowler hit four homers and knocked in 11 for the Chasers, while Cole and Kennedy each picked up a win and helped take ERA and WHIP. Gausman and Ray struck out seven each.

Minimum innings reminder

Please make sure you set your teams up to meet the 20 inning minimum limit. It would be a shame to see teams lose categories by falling short. If you are suffering with injuries, make the most of your DL slots, scour the free agent or start trade talks with teams with a surplus.

Week 12 matchups

There’s a mouthwatering clash as the new leaders take on second-placed Norwich.

Maltsters (1st) v Norwich (2nd)

RBIs (3rd) v A&E Dept (7th)

Bombers (4th) v Batteries Essential (13th)

Isotopes (5th) v Chasers (6th)

Iron Men (8th) v Riverkings (9th)

Jesmond (10th) v Knights (12th)

Sox (11th) v Slugs (14th)

MLB This Week: Quintana’s latest audition

With the amateur draft behind us, the trade deadline rumours are starting to begin in earnest and – as with every year – starting pitchers are on the minds of many of the teams that fancy themselves as play-off contenders.

Jose Quintana surprisingly was still on the White Sox’s roster when Opening Day came around after an off-season of trade rumours.

He hasn’t done much to help his team get a prospect haul for him though as his 2017 season so far has been underwhelming to say the least. He’s scheduled to pitch against the Twins in an early game on Thursday and so it’s a convenient time for us to see if his performances have been better than his results would suggest.

That’s one of ten games beginning before midnight UK time this working week. Other starting pitchers currently scheduled to take the mound include Max Scherzer, Marcus Stroman, Ivan Nova and Carlos Martinez.

Mets and Mustangs just fall short in Europe

The potential fantastic Friday for our two British representatives in Europe didn’t turn out the way we hoped, with both suffering defeats and therefore missing out on making their respective pool final.

London left rueing their Stockholm slip

London Mets knew they had a difficult task in facing Sant Boi in their last pool game, knowing they either needed a win or a close loss to get a chance to face them again in the final of their Federations Cup Qualifier Pool 3.

A four-run first inning for the Spanish team immediately put the Mets on the back foot. A five-run third, followed by a seven-run fifth meant that Sant Boi ran out comfortable winners by a score of 16-1 in five innings.

Sant Boi went on to win the final on Saturday in a close encounter with Kaunas County B.C. by a score of 4-1. The Mets had beaten Kaunas in their opening fixture 12-4 to show that on another day London may have been able to run Sant Boi much closer than the 16-1 loss might suggest.

London’s frustration probably will come from the 2-1 defeat to Stockholm in their second game as that narrow loss in an evenly-matched contest proved the difference between making the pool final and finishing third.

Pool details on the CEB website.

Southampton fight-back falls short

There was more British frustration in Pool 2 where the Southampton Mustangs put up an almighty fight against the hometown Beograd in Serbia in what was effectively a semi-final, with the winner heading on to face Diving Ducks W.Neustadt.

Southampton looked out of it heading into the top of the eighth inning, trailing 11-4, only to put up a six-spot to bring them within one run. A clean top of the ninth meant that the Mustangs had the chance to get a walk-off victory, but a three-up, three-down inning saw Southampton out of the competition despite battling to the end.

As in Pool 3, the Pool 2 favourites prevailed in the final as Diving Ducks beat Beograd 9-3.

Pool details on the CEB website.

Concentrate on the league

Despite missing out on their pool finals, it was great to see British teams continuing to take part in European competitions once again.

Their attention will now return to the domestic season next Sunday (25th).

The London Mets host a double-header against Essex Arrows at Finsbury Park, whilst Southampton welcome the Brighton Jets to Mustangs Field

Big Friday for British baseball teams in Europe

The CEB (Confederation of European Baseball) tournament website is a little dated, but it doesn’t matter what the graphics look like when they’re showing a victory for a British baseball team.

Just a few minutes ago, this was the site on the live feed from Stockholm:

(N.B. ignore the 10 inning reference, it automatically goes to the next inning after the previous one – such as the ninth – ends).

The London Mets secured a 7-0 victory over UKS Deby Osielsko to give themselves a chance to make it through to the Federations Cup Qualifier Pool 3 final.

Their final group game takes place at 11.00 GMT tomorrow (Friday) and it’s going to be a tough one against the Pool favourites, Sant Boi. The Spanish team are 3-0 and already guaranteed a place in the final, which might mean they take their eye off the ball. If they do, the Mets are sure to be ready to take advantage. London’s victory tonight means they are 2-1 in the Pool knowing a win on Friday will be enough to get a final berth.

If Sant Boi come out on top, that would probably result in a three-way tie for second place with Kaunas County B.C. (who are 2-2) and the hosts Stockholm who are 1-2 and strong favourites to beat UKS Deby tomorrow to even up their record. CEB tournament rules mean that the first tie-breaker (result against the other tied team) won’t separate the teams (they are all 1-1 in games against each other) so it moves on to the second tie-breaker: Teams Quality Balance (TQB). As explained in the rules:

“*Teams Quality Balance (TQB) is the sum of runs scored divided by the number of innings played on offense minus the number of runs allowed divided by the number of innings played on defense. (RS/IPO) – (RA/IPD)=TQB.

The TQB is calculated with four decimal places. The fifth decimal place is used to round up or down”.

Here is how things stand with Kaunas having played their four games, and London and Stockholm still to play their final games tomorrow.

GP RS OIP RS/OIP RA DIP RA/DIP TQB
London 3 20 26 0.769230769 6 26 0.230769231 0.5385
Kaunas 4 25 33 0.757575758 13 32 0.40625 0.3513
Stockholm 3 5 23 0.217391304 27 23 1.173913043 -0.9565

* This is my quick calculation, not an official tally (i.e. subject to error!).

If I’ve calculated that all correctly, at this stage the Mets are in the cat-bird seat; however the key difference is that the other two teams have already played the strongest team in the Pool.  Kaunas lost 8-0 to Sant Boi earlier today, whilst Stockholm lost 11-3 to them in their pool opener. So, if the Mets can’t quite get the better of Sant Boi tomorrow, they’ll need to work hard to keep the score close to stay ahead of Kanuas.

Southampton’s semi-final

It was a good day for the Southampton Mustangs too, competing in Pool B in Serbia. They defeated Atletico Alexandria 13-7 to make it two wins on the spin after losing their opener against pool favourites Diving Ducks W.Neustadt from Austria.

That victory sets up what is effectively a semi-final on Friday (15.00 GMT) against the home team Beograd ’96. Both teams have a 2-1 record and whoever wins the game will go on to face the Diving Ducks on Saturday. The Ducks are 3-0 and guaranteed a place in the final even if they lose against Athletic Sofia tomorrow lunchtime.

The Mustangs, reigning NBL champions, made it to their pool final last year where they were beaten by Sant Boi.

British baseball fans would really get that ‘Friday feeling’ if we end up with two teams in the final, with the Mets getting some British revenge on the Spanish team in the process.

You can follow the action live on the CEB website, with updates on their Twitter accounts (@LondonMets and @SotonMustangs) as well.

BaseballGB Fantasy League 2017 Week Ten

I’m ‘pinch-blogging’ for Mark this week in the BGB Fantasy League round-up. Let’s see if anyone had a perfect 10 week or if it was a week to forget for others.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Jesmond Dennings 33 8 24 6 .280* .795 2 3 43 3 5.00 1.13 11
Weston-Super-Sox 31 7 20 6 .280* .790 1 1 17 1 6.16 1.74 0

Jesmond got the biggest win of the week as the Super-Sox pitchers fell one inning below the required minimum of 20, handing those 6 points away. Dallas Keuchel’s absence clearly hurt the Super-Sox, whilst Jesmond got three saves from Corey Knebel and a couple of holds from Andrew Miller.

Joey Votto had a big week for Jesmond with four home runs and a 1.300 OPS and Ian Desmond added three stolen bases. Six of the Super-Sox’s seven home runs came from Houston Astros (McCann, Gurriel and Springer).

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Batteries Essential 36 5 20 3 .271 .738 4 2 54 0 2.83 1.20 2
Norwich No II 36 13 38 2 .283 .904 6 3 45 1 2.23 0.88 9

Norwich No II built on their lead at the top of the league with an impressive 9-2 victory over Batteries Essential. Gary Sanchez’s four home runs and 13 RBI led Norwich’s offence, with Mark Reynolds, Aaron Hicks and Kris Bryant chipping in multiple homers each too. For Batteries’ Charlie Blackmon played a huge role in the team drawing the runs category as he crossed the plate 11 teams.

Sonny Gray and Gio Gonzalez amassed 24 strike-outs to help Batteries take that category, but otherwise the pitching glory went to Norwich No II, not least through Craig Kimbrel and Edwin Diaz picking up saves whilst not allowing any runs.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Iron Men 37 9 28 0 .314 .965 4 3 44 3 1.96 0.94 8
Mighty Slugs 26 5 23 4 .206 .640 7 3 63 0 3.95 1.33 3

Iron Men picked up a good win against the Slugs. Chris Archer gave the Slugs 19 K’s on the way to a team total of 63, but the Iron Men’s staff got 19 K’s from Carlos Martinez too and were more efficient in keeping runs off the board. The Iron Men offense received handy contributions from a range of players, rather than an individual exceptional week, and that proved enough with the Slugs having to get by during Mike Trout’s absence.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Beckenham A&E Dept 42 14 45 6 .330 1.001 3 7 68 0 5.33 1.49 8
Durham Riverkings 22 5 24 3 .255 .672 5 2 36 2 3.45 1.29 4

Beckenham picked up a needed win against the Riverkings in a match-up of two parts. The A&E Dept romped their way to all six offensive categories, with Schoop and Bruce each hitting three home runs and Buster Posey adding nine RBI. The Riverkings were able to fight back by taking four of the pitching categories, but Iglesias’s three saves, and in particular Max Scherzer’s 24 strike-outs allowed Beckenham’s to snatch those two categories and the match-up win.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Orpington Isotopes 33 8 42 1 .296 .865 1 3 65 0 4.84 1.20 7
Richie’s RBI’s 35 9 35 1 .277 .827 3 2 47 3 5.98 1.27 4

Mark’s Isotopes left me little chance to make fun of him in his absence by earning a 7-4 win over the RBI’s. Starlin Castro led the Isotopes with 3 HR and 10 RBI, whilst Jake Lamb gave Ritchie’s team 11 RBI and some bloke called Aaron Judge got a few half-decent hits along the way too. Saves and K’s were once again a key part of the winning team’s arsenal as the Isotopes took those two (Samardzija adding 16 K’s to the total), with RBI’s being hurt by disappointing performances from Tanaka and Porcello.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
Cheshunt Maltsters 31 7 23 1 .296 .828 6 4 53 3 3.60 1.33 7
Newcastle Knights 35 12 30 0 .255 .881 1 2 36 4 5.50 1.51 5

Maltsters stay in second place after a narrow victory over the Knights. They had no less than 11 pitchers contributing across the week on their way to five of the pitching categories, Osuna being the pick of the bench in earning three saves. The Knights’ offense hit back with Smoak sticking three balls over the fence LeMahieu and Seager both providing 7 RBI, but Maltsters took the batting average and Andrew McCutchen’s stolen base proved the only piece of bag theft by either team.

Team R HR RBI SB AVG OPS W SV K HLD ERA WHIP Score
The Cheddar Chasers 27 11 42 3 .301 .917 2 0 59 0 5.43 1.67 6
The Bath Bombers 21 5 19 6 .242 .680 3 2 56 6 3.54 1.11 6

Finally, my Chasers had a hard-fought draw with the Bombers. My batting line-up came out on top in five out of six, with Justin Upton’s 10 RBI helping no end, but the Bombers’ pitching staff won five out of six on that side of the match-up to level things up. Strasburg, Robertson and Rosenthal were the key contributors, although Robbie Ray continued to pitch brilliantly for my team (and the D-Backs) with two wins and 23 K’s.

Week 11 match-ups

Norwich No 11 (1st) v Beckenham (9th)
Maltsters (2nd) v Riverkings (7th)
Bombers (3rd) v Isoptopes (5th)
RBI’s (4th) v Batteries (11th)

They begin on Tuesday with the first game of a double-header between the Brewers and Cardinals.

St Louis have been through a difficult spell of late, with manager Mike Matheny being the subject of rumours that he may be fighting for his job.  They’re definitely a team that needs to find some good form quickly.

The four games on Wednesday should include a Major League debut for the Oakland A’s prospect Daniel Gossett. He’s in line to take the spot vacated by the injured Andrew Triggs and it’s available for British viewers on BT Sport/ESPN as well as being the MLB.com Free Game for all to watch online.

We’ve also got a re-match of the 2014 World Series as the Royals are in San Francisco to take on the Giants. The game should see Johnny Cueto, who won a World Series ring with the Royals in 2015, taking on his former club.

Thursday’s games include what could be a potential World Series match-up as the Dodgers face the Indians in Cleveland.

All times are in BST.

London Mets and Southampton Mustangs head out on another European tour

Next week will be an exciting one in the British baseball calendar as two of our teams will be heading abroad to once again show the rest of Europe that – Brexit be damned – we’re still a part of European baseball and a good part of it at that.

Off to Serbia and Sweden

The reigning NBL champion Southampton Mustangs are in Belgrade, Serbia, for the Federations Cup Pool 2 qualifier. They will compete in a group alongside Athletic Sofia (Bulgaria), Atletico Alexandria (Romania), Beograd ’96 (Serbia) and Diving Ducks W.Neustadt (Austria).

The London Mets, currently riding high in the NBL after sweeping a double-header against the Mustangs, are in Stockholm, Sweden, in Pool 3. Their opponents will be Kaunas County B.C. (Lithuania), Sant Boi (Spain), Stockholm Monarchs (Sweden) and UKS Deby Osielsko (Poland).

British teams in Europe

It will be the third consecutive year in which the top two BBF teams will pit themselves against European competition after European participation had been a thorny subject for many years in the British ranks.

After early forays in the 1960s by Stretford Saints (1965) and Hull Aces (1966, 1968, 1969), British teams went through a strong spell of competing in Europe from the late 1980s to the mid-2000s. Teams flying the British baseball flag included:

  • Birmingham Bandits
  • Birmingham Braves
  • Brighton Buccaneers
  • Crawley Comets
  • Croydon Pirates
  • Edinburgh Diamond Devils
  • Enfield Spartans
  • Greater Berkshire 1938
  • Hessle Warriors
  • Hounslow Rangers
  • Hull Mets
  • Kingston Cobras
  • Leeds Royals
  • London Warriors
  • Menwith Hill Patriots
  • Nottingham Hornets
  • Richmond Flames
  • Windsor Bears

2005 was the high-water mark with three teams – Croydon Pirates in the Cupwinner Cup, Greater Berkshire 1938 in the European Cup B Pool and Edinburgh Diamond Devils in the Cup Qualifier – playing on the continent, but then we entered a drought.

The CEB introduced a revised European Cup qualifier structure in 2008, creating 4 Pools for the ‘smaller’ clubs to compete in. Whilst many European countries were represented – from Belarus to Lithuania, Romania to Serbia, Finland to Norway, Austria to Switzerland etc – Great Britain was a very notable absentee.

Back into European competition

The Essex Arrows and London Mets changed that in 2015 when they competed in European Cup Qualifiers in Antwerp, Belgium, and Karlovac, Croatia respectively. Both teams went 1-3 in the first European representation by British senior teams in 10 years.

The Arrows got the better of Finland’s Espoo Expos in their opener before three defeats against Belgium’s Borgerhourt Squirrels, Croatia’s Split Nada (the Arrows getting nada runs in the process) and Sweden’s Stockholm.

London went the other way, suffering defeats in their first three games to Olimpija Karlovac (Croatia), Zajcki Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Leksand Sweden before batting against Gepardy Zory (Poland) to ensure they came home with a victory.

Last year was another significant step forward with the London Mets, assisted by the BBF and BSUK, hosting a Federations Cup Qualifier at Farnham Park, the first European games on British soil for almost 20 years. Meanwhile the Southampton Mustangs travelled to Sant Boi, Spain.

Both teams acquitted themselves extremely well, with the Mets going 2-2 from their four games and the Mustangs making it all the way to their Pool final where they valiantly lost 6-1 to a strong Sant Boi’s team.

Follow the action

London Mets will try to get some British revenge on Sant Boi’s this time around and both they and Southampton will be sure to play hard and show that there’s plenty of talent in British baseball, just as Team UK did this past weekend.

Updates will no doubt be available on their Twitter accounts (@LondonMets and @SotonMustangs) with reports on the BBF website. Best of luck to the Mets and Mustangs.
