MLB This Week: Not just the World Cup

It’s the week that the FIFA World Cup gets underway and I’m sure many of you reading will be indulging in some football viewing over the next few weeks to complement the baseball.

It’s a fairly quiet working week for early baseball games, although this week at least the World Cup doesn’t offer too much of an alternative other than the Spain-Portugal contest on Friday night.

As for the baseball, Wednesday and Thursday are the evenings to set aside and there are some good-looking games amongst them. Cubs-Brewers on Wednesday is free to watch for all on MLB.com and that’s sure to be one of the most competitive series of the week, whilst a Chris Sale start against Baltimore (on BT Sport/ESPN in the UK) could be strike-out central.

As for Thursday, BT Sport will be showing two games that evening including a Justin Verlander start for the Astros against the A’s.

The Phillies’ strong start to the season has become derailed of late as they enter their home series against Colorado on Tuesday having lost 11 of their last 16 games. The Rockies haven’t exactly been firing on all cylinders of late either, heading into the series on a 4-game losing streak as part of a 3-7 stretch over their last 10 games. Both teams will be determined to put a run of wins together soon and Thursday’s series finale will make for interesting viewing.
