We have a great British sporting weekend on the cards with the finals of Wimbledon – always an important sporting event but even more so this year with Andy Murray making the Men’s Final - and the British F1 Grand Prix.
There are some good choices to add some baseball into the mix too. These are the games starting before midnight U.K. time on Saturday (all times in BST).
17.35. NY Yankees at Boston (Hughes – Morales) *ESPN America
21.05. Kansas City at Detroit (Chen – Fister)
21.05. Milwaukee at Houston (Greinke – Rodriguez)
21.05. Colorado at Washington (Francis – Gonzalez) *ESPN America, MLB.com Free Game of the Day
21.05. San Francisco at Pittsburgh (Vogelsong – McDonald)
21.10. Toronto at Chicago White Sox (Romero – Floyd)
21.10. Chicago Cubs at NY Mets (Samardzija – Gee)
21.10. Miami at St. Louis (Zambrano – Lohse)
23.05. Tampa Bay at Cleveland (Moore – Jimenez)
The Yankees and Red Sox are playing a double-header on Saturday. The Yankees took the series opener 10-8 on Friday night as Hiroki Kuroda and Josh Beckett both conceded five runs in the first inning. Phil Hughes and Franklin Morales will try to get off to better starts today. Freddy Garcia and Felix Doubront are the scheduled starters for the second part of the double-header, starting at quarter past midnight. Both of those games will be shown live on ESPN America, with the Rockies v Nationals game in between.
The Houston Astros have lost their last nine games and Wandy Rodriguez is on the mound trying to stop that streak from extending to ten games today. He’ll have to pitch well if the Astros are to manage that against Zack Greinke. He is one of the biggest names being touted as a potential player on the move before the non-waiver trade deadline at the end of July. The notable difference between Greinke’s performances at home and on the road for the Brewers (2011, 2012) may give the Astros hope today, but there’s no doubt it will be a tough assignment for their hitters.
Elsewhere, Ricky Romero and Doug Fister both had poor outings on Monday so the Blue Jays and Tigers – as well as Fantasy owners in head-to-head leagues that have both pitchers on their roster (yes, that includes me) – will have their fingers crossed that they can rebound with strong performances today.
All of these games are available to watch live via the MLB.TV subscription at MLB.com. ESPN America’s games are listed above. The full schedule for today’s games can be found on MLB.com.
