A Wild (Card) Friday night to look forward to

MLB has announced the provisional 2012 postseason schedule, showing that we’re in for a Friday night treat this year.

The new Wild card round will be played on Friday 5 October, after the climax of the regular season on Wednesday 3rd.

Both of the Wild Card games will be broadcast on TBS in the States. The respective start times will be determined in part by the location (and therefore time zones) of the two home teams; however TBS obviously will want to stagger the start times so they are played one after the other and I suspect their preference would be for a block of baseball, rather than playing one game in the afternoon and one at night.

All of which increases the likelihood that one of the games will be played during the late British evening, rather than both of them being in the early hours of Saturday.

In any case, the two games are sure to fall squarely in the ‘can’t miss’ bracket. Treat this as an early reminder to try to keep the morning of Saturday 6th free for some post-Wild Card games sleep.
