We’ve reached the point in the season when games are played under the shadow of trade rumours as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches.
Nowhere was that more evident than at Wrigley Field on Saturday where the Philadelphia Phillies’ pitcher Cole Hamels took to the mound amid an avalanche of rumours that it could be his last start for the team. The no-hitter he pitched will be remembered for a long time – not least as the trade deadline approaches every year – as it was one of those stories that sport has a habit of creating.
