Looking forward to the week ahead

by Matt Smith

Once again, British baseball fans should clear their schedules for Wednesday and Thursday evening, with some great match-ups to enjoy via MLB.TV or Gameday Audio.

Monday – No early games. Pick of the night is probably a Roger Clemens start at Yankee Stadium against the Twins from 00.05.

Tuesday – One early game, with Chris Capuano scheduled to make his return from the DL for the Brewers against the Pirates at 21.05.

Wednesday – Plenty of choice today, with seven games on live at a convenient time. Johan Santana pitching against Mike Mussina and the Yankees looks the stand-out match-up (18.05). Meanwhile, the unlucky Matt Cain will be looking for just his third win of the season against the Reds (18.15), with Cole Hamels taking the mound fifty minutes later for the Phillies against the Astros.

Thursday – Four games in the British evening, including two top-notch pitching match-ups. In the senior circuit, Ben Sheets and the Brewers face Tom Gorzelanny and the Pirates at 17.35. In the AL, C.C. Sabathia takes on Justin Verlander and the Tigers (18.05). In the other two games, the Twins and Yankees finish their four-game series (also at 18.05), while the Marlins head to San Diego to take on Jake Peavy and the Padres (20.35).

Friday – One early game from Chicago, where the Twins take on the White Sox at 19.05.

Elsewhere, Five’s Wednesday night game coverage begins at 01.30 in the early hours of Thursday while NASN’s MLB schedule for the week can be found here .
