BGB Articles

After a successful and very enjoyable 2008 at BGB, we have been working on lots of new features and ideas to improve the site even further in 2009.  So many in fact that it’s taken a whole month before I’ve had a proper chance to mention it.

Some of these will already be apparent (the use of other platforms such as Twitter, the launch of ‘seasons’ dedicated to a specific topic) and another will make its debut tomorrow.

Although we use blogging software, we like to think this is more than just a blog (which admittedly does sound like a corny marketing line).  We publish specific features, like the Baseball Basics for Brits series and book reviews, and our frequent posts often stretch beyond the standard ‘blog’ length.

Longer pieces of writing, particularly features that aren’t date-dependent, don’t always lend themselves so well to the narrow main text box.  We would like them to stand out more, incorporating images/photos and tables where they add something to the writing.  You can do this with blog posts, and we do, but pdfs allow you to do it much more seamlessly.

Therefore, we have created a BaseballGB ‘Full Article’ template and design guide that we will use to complement our current content with more in-depth pieces of work.

The first of these is the “Backward K’s and 6-4-3 double plays: Why baseball fans should keep score” article that will be published tomorrow.

While we are looking forward to researching and writing these longer articles, we would also be interested to hear from anyone else who would like to join in.

If you are working on an article that would broadly fit in with our site, or if you have an idea that you are thinking of developing into an article, please get in contact by putting matt in front of baseballgb.co.uk in your e-mail address box.

(Thanks must go to Joe for putting the template and design guide together)

Yep, just to re-iterate that invitation to write from Matt, it would be great to have some guest contrbutions, so if there is a topic that you fancy covering in a bit (or a lot) of depth then let us know.
