MLB This Week: Five days out of five

by Matt Smith

After relative slim-pickings last week, this working week offers us games before midnight UK time every day.

Monday’s game only just comes in under that line, but the other four days offer us a chance to catch live baseball at a convenient time.

The contests include two from an intriuging inter-league series between the Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks, one from the Pirates-Brewers series from the NL Central, and a rare early game from the LA Angels as they are on the road in an inter-league series against Washington.

BT Sport aren’t showing many of the early games this week, unfortunately, although they are showing games from the Little League World Series from Thursday (which previous experience suggests will either raise your spirits or annoy you).

All times are in BST.

Monday 14 August

23:10 Indians at Red Sox (Bauer (10-8), Fister (2-5))

Tuesday 15 August

20:40 Astros at D-backs (Peacock (10-1), Banda (1-2))

Wednesday 16 August

18:05 Angels at Nationals (Nolasco (5-12), Roark)
18:10 Giants at Marlins (Cain, Urena (10-5))
19:10 Pirates at Brewers (Cole (10-8), Davies (13-6))
20:35 Royals at Athletics (Duffy (7-8), Smith (0-2)) *MLB.com Free Game
20:40 Orioles at Mariners (Jimenez (5-7), Gonzales (0-0))
20:40 Phillies at Padres (Pivetta (4-7), Richard (5-12))

Thursday 17 August

18:10 Indians at Twins (Clevinger (6-4), Berrios (10-5))
19:10 D-backs at Astros (Corbin, Fiers (7-7)) *BT Sport2
19:20 Reds at Cubs (Feldman (7-7), Lester)
20:10 Braves at Rockies (Sims (0-3), Hoffman (6-4))
21:07 Rays at Blue Jays (Archer (8-7), Rowley (1-0))

Friday 18 August

19:20 Blue Jays at Cubs (Happ, Arrieta)

All of these games are available to watch or listen to live via an MLB.TV subscription. TV coverage of MLB in the UK comes courtesy of the BT Sport channels and these are highlighted above, as are any games that are available to view online for free via MLB.com. The above list of games just shows those starting before midnight UK time. The full schedule of MLB games can be found on MLB.com.

For those without an MLB subscription it’s also worth checking out MLB’s youtube channel where they stream some extra games live, so today Wednesday the official free game of the day is royals v A’s but they are now streaming Giants at Marlins on youtube. Cant find any schedule as to what games they are going to show, sometimes they stream two at a time.

So BT give good coverage for the first 4 and a half months of the season and as things really start to hot up the coverage takes second billing to the LLWS, not sure on that , it finishes 27th August- hope normal service will resume. MLB stream two games a day on youtube – but there seems to be no advance schedule, i’ll just have to keep trying the link to get my fix.
