Final week of Spring Training

by Matt Smith

Players, managers and fans alike are all ready for the regular season to begin.  Spring Training has gone more quickly this year thanks to the excitement of the World Baseball Classic, but it still seems to be a week or so too long.

Yet no doubt there will be a game soon enough that leaves you pacing around the room, verging between joy and despair, ending with frustration and quiet sorrow.  ‘Oh for those days when the results didn’t matter and you could relax while watching a game’, may be your cry.  So take some time this week to just sit back and enjoy a leisurely spring match or two.  This is your guide to the contests available on MLB.tv over the next five days (or three days, as it turns out).

All times are listed in British Summer Time.  Don’t forget that the time difference has gone back to normal (we’re 5 hours ahead of Eastern time, 6 ahead of Central and 8 ahead of Pacific).

Monday 30 – The week begins with six MLB.tv games.  First up is the Rays against the Twins at 18.05.  Chicago’s teams are in action at 21.05, with the White Sox facing the Angels and the Cubs taking on the Royals.  Two NL West teams, the Rockies and the D-Backs, face each other five minutes later.  The final two games of the day begin just after midnight: Padres versus Indians (00.05) and Orioles versus Mets (00.10).

Tuesday 31 – There are four games on Tuesday.  After playing against the White Sox yesterday, the Angels take on the Cubs with first pitch set for 21.05.  The Mariners begin their game against the Indians at the same time.  It’s NL-only clashes the rest of the way, as the Braves face the Astros (00.05) and the Brewers face the Padres (03.05).

Wednesday 1 – We should have three games to watch on Wednesday.  The first of which, Marlins versus Orioles at 18.05, is currently scheduled to be used as the latest test for the new MLB.tv media player.  It’s worth making the extra effort to get a glimpse of that and non-MLB.tv subscribers should check MLB.com on the day to see whether they can watch it for free as well (as happened with a previous test).  Back on the old media player, the Rangers have a game against the Rangers (20.05) and the D-Backs play against the Brewers (21.05).

Thursday 2 and Friday 3 – The schedule currently shows no games are being broadcast on MLB.tv on these days, so GamedayAudio is your friend instead.
