As a Dave Matthews Band fan, I was looking forward to hearing their new single called Funny The Way It Is.
Â
This seemed apt when reviewing the BaseballGB Fantasy League, as sometimes success can hinge on whether you bench a player or not.

It’s not often you win ERA in a head-to-head league with a figure of 5.02, but Thomas Ogilvie’s Borders Bats did just that. Thomas deserves a lot of credit for deciding to bench Chien-Mieng Wang before his disastrous start against Cleveland, which surely would have cost him both ERA and WHIP. Despite a big week from Ryan Ludwick, the rest of the Bats could not out-hit The Gas.

Â
After a horrible opening week for my Isotopes, I was able to bounce back with a 7-4 in over The Wright Stuff, who are always tough opponents. I was helped by three-homer weeks from Utley and Michael Young as well as 10 RBIs from DeRosa. I couldn’t compete with the excellent ERA and WHIP and was likely to lose holds once Justin Masterson was put into the Red Sox rotation in place of the injured Dice-K. I also lost out on four scoreless innings of relief from Masterson, benching him on a day when I had three starters going. The Wright Stuff are fighting injuries at the moment, with Webb and Carpenter out on a team already filling its DL spots.

A closely-fought matchup saw the Angels defeat the Bangers, with several categories which could have gone either way. The Bangers were helped by a big week from Matt Kemp, but the Angels’ pitching took four out of six categories.

Another week, another win for Josh & Jonny Whos, although this one was much closer than the demolition of my team the previous week. A number of categories went down the wire, including OPS, which saw both team just .002 apart. The Whos were helped by a four-homer week from Adrian Gonzalez. The Nationals will be hoping their pitchers’ winless week will not be repeated any time soon.

Â
What a week for Joe’s Rio Crande Typos, with a 10-1 victory. Aside from ERA, all of the pitching categories were very close. The Typos were helped by a four-homer week from Ethier, while Tribal Warfare will have to deal with injuries to Vladimir Guerrero and BJ Upton, who saw his comeback cut short. Warfare could do with using their DL spots and picking up reinforcements.

Â
A very tight matchup saw Bonestalkers win 5-3 in a week which saw four of the six pitching categories tied! The Giants were helped by RBI contributions throughout the lineup, but not a great average to go with it. Both teams need to consider putting their injured players on the DL and adding healthy players.

The Cheddar Chasers | 26 | 3 | 15 | 4 | .304 | .829 | 4 | 2 | 54 | 1 | 3.29 | 1.27 | 4 |
SWAT | 35 | 9 | 35 | 1 | .305 | .901 | 1 | 3 | 29 | 1 | 3.03 | 1.32 | 7 |
Â
SWAT certainly lived up to their name, outhitting the Chasers on the way to a 7-4 win. With an incredible nine homers and 35 runs and RBIs, SWAT were helped by big weeks from Mike Jacobs (four homers), Nick Markakis and Adam Jones. The Chasers had impressive pitching from Vazquez and Grienke.
Â
The results leave Josh & Jonny Whos leading the table with a 16-5-3 record, with the Angels just half a game behind. It’s still early days, so we could see a lot of changes next week.
Â
Joe is the top BaseballGB representative in fourth.

My offense has been pretty poor so far. I’ve made two additions by picking up Jeremy Hermida and Ian Stewart and hopefully they can help.
Obviously, things can change a lot from week to week depending on which team you’re facing and whether one or two players go bananas for four or five days (such as Ethier and Kinsler did for Joe last week).
I’m glad that Vazquez and Greinke have got off to good starts as they were two pitchers that I really wanted to get before the draft.
Looking forward to week three.
