Another week, another change at the top in the BaseballGB fantasy league, while my team also had to deal with the distraction of Manny Ramirez’s suspension.Â

Joe rebounded nicely as his Typos beat my Isotopes 8-4. While most of the batting categories stayed close, Joe’s superior pitching helped him to the win, especially with very impressive ERA and WHIP from Halladay, Cliff Lee and Buerhle. Hardy and Huff were Joe’s star hitters, while my main man was Adam Dunn. Manny Ramirez’s suspension means my Isotopes have had to sacrifice a starting pitcher for another bench bat, although 76 strikeouts from my young power arms is encouraging.

A narrow win for SWAT, as a number of categories finished very close. Jayson Werth’s four-homer week boosted SWAT, while the pitching categories were shared. The Nationals will be hurting at the injury to Aramis Ramirez.

A week after reaching the top, JJ was beaten by the Bats. Evan Longoria’s big week (4HR, 14 RBI) helped the Bats take a clean sweep of the hitting categories. The Whos had a strong week of pitching, particularly from the Mets of Santana and Rodriguez.

The Cheddar Chasers put on a home run display while beating the Giants 8-2. The Chasers belted 18 in one week, an incredible number, including four each from Beltran and Bruce. The pitching categories were close, and this could easily have gone the other way. Russ can count himself unlucky a WHIP of 1.12 wasn’t good enough to win.

Pitching was the key to The Gas picking up the win over the Bangers. The Gas took all six pitching categories, posting a stingy ERA of 1.70 and a ridiculously good WHIP of 0.86 thanks to his six-man staff of Peavy, Jered Weaver, Wakefield, Sonnanstine, Gregg and Marmol.

Another matchup with close categories saw Bonestalkers edge The Wright Stuff 7-5. This could have gone the other way as wins, strikeouts and WHIP were very close – just 0.02 on WHIP separated the teams. Damon’s five-homer week and Tejada’s RBIs helped Bonestalkers’ bats, while Hanley Ramirez scored 11 runs for the Stuff. If Bonestalkers used the DL, they could do even better.

Â
The Angels managed a narrow win over Tribal Warfare. RBIs finished level, while average, OPS, holds, ERA and WHIP could have gone either way. Not a bad result for the Warfare considering their injuries, but they need to use the DL to have a better chance of picking up a weekly win.
Â
The results mean Joe’s Typos and SWAT are joint top, with JJ’s Whos two games back. The Whos and Typos go head-to-head this week, while SWAT take on cellar dwellers Tribal Warfare.

After a slow start, the Cheddar Chasers are beginning to find their feet. Funny how an offense can be less-than average one week and brilliant the next. I thought it was pitchers who were supposed to be the flaky ones!
