There have been a few early season frustrations at MLB.com with their multimedia content. Hopefully all of this is just a case of teething problems that will be addressed in the near future.
I was particularly disappointed yesterday evening to find that the much-hyped Daily Recaps for each game were seemingly not there. Watching the Daily Rewind broadcast when I got home from work each week day had become part of my ‘baseball season routine’. The news that they were changing the format this season was a bit disappointing, but the promise of individual Rewinds seemed to be a good alternative. Not when they don’t exist though!
Thankfully I’ve just checked the multimedia guide for yesterday’s games and they are all there, so that’s a step in the right direction.
For British fans, there are three live games for us to enjoy this evening. At 18.05 (BST), the Royals take on the Tigers with Brian Bannister and Kenny Rogers set to start. A day game at Wrigley is always worth watching and the Cubs’s match-up with the Brewers will be no exception. First pitch is scheduled for 19.20. Jeff Suppan starts for the Brew Crew and Ted Lilly gets the nod for the South siders. Finally, the A’s and the Red Sox finish off their elongated four game series at 20.35. It’s a re-match from the second game of the season, as Jon Lester and Rich Harden battle it out again.Â
As a Yankees fan I usually follow the highlights of the other teams in the AL East if their games are on at the same time as the Yankees or if they’re on too late. This morning I went to view the highlights of the Red Sox vs A’s game which was on last night and couldn’t find any.
Last year MLB.tv had the option of watching a condensed game (around 7 minutes long, which showed every walk, strikeout, hit, HR etc.), and a 2 minute highlight package. This year I can’t seem to find them, I expected not to for spring training but I thought by the time the regular season rolled around they would appear.
On the MLB.tv mosaic there is still the gap in the right column when you click on-demand and select a game where Condensed Game and Highlight Package used to be. (These options were usually between Watch Complete Game and View Top Plays.)
I hope these highlights reappear, they were a big part of my viewing last year.
Hi Christopher. I’m afraid it looks like the condensed game feature has been discontinued and replaced by the Daily Rewind Game Recap. Like you, I enjoyed watching the condensed games most days so it’s a real shame that they’ve taken this feature away.
