Sunday’s early MLB games: Tim Hudson and Wade Davis lead the way

As per normal for Sunday, there’s a solitary late game (Padres-Dodgers at 01.10) and all of the rest of the day’s fixtures take place at a convenient time for us Brits.  All times are in BST.

18.05. Twins @ Indians – Blackburn (9-9), Huff (8-7)
18.07. Yankees @ Blue Jays – Mitre (3-1), Tallet (5-9)
18.10. Cubs @ Mets – Wells (10-7), Pelfrey (9-10)
18.30. Reds @ Braves – Cueto (9-10), Hudson (1-0)
18.35. Marlins @ Nationals – Sanchez (2-6), Martin (3-4)
18.35. Cardinals @ Pirates – Pineiro (14-9), Maholm (7-8)
18.35. Rangers @ Orioles – Holland (7-9), Guthrie (9-13)
18.38. Tigers @ Rays – Jackson (11-6), Davis (0-0)
19.05. Red Sox @ White Sox – Lester (11-7), Danks (12-8)
19.05. Phillies @ Astros – Hamels (8-8), Norris (3-3)
19.05. Giants @ Brewers – Sanchez (6-11), Looper (11-6)
19.10. Angels @ Royals – Saunders (11-7), Hochevar (6-8)
20.10. D-Backs @ Rockies – Petit (3-8), De La Rosa (13-9)
21.05. Mariners @ A’s – Fister (2-1), Gonzalez (4-5).

With so many games to choose from, which you follow depends on personal choice as much as anything.  In all honesty, it’s been easier not to follow the A’s games this season as they normally end up just getting me frustrated.  However, listening to the A’s radio feed via GamedayAudio is one of my favourite ways to while away a Sunday evening and I won’t have too many more chances to do that this season.  So I’ll be tuning into to Gio Gonzalez’s start against the wonderfully named Doug Fister.

The other two pitching starts that catch my eye are Tim Hudson’s second appearance coming back from Tommy John surgery and Wade Davis’ Major League debut for the Rays.  The presence of talents like Davis in the Rays’ farm system gave them the confidence to deal away Edwin Jackson over the offseason.  The Tigers have benefited handsomely from the trade and Jackson has got the chance to spoil Davis’ debut today.

All the above games can be followed via various resources on MLB.com (Gameday, Gameday Audio and MLB.tv).  ESPN America is showing the Cubs-Mets game at 18.00 and the Sunday Night Baseball Game at 01.00.
