Home MLBBST Game Guides Six early games this week

Six early games this week

by Matt Smith

We were a bit spoilt last week, with fourteen day games in the States providing us with plenty of live action during the evening here in Britain.  It’s a different story over the next five days, with only six games to look forward to; however the two games on Wednesday will give you a baseball alternative to the Champions League final if you are looking for one.  All times are listed in BST.

Monday
No early games.  Among the later games, the Cubs take on the Astros, while the Royals’ young starter Luke Hochever makes a start at Fenway against Jon Lester and the Red Sox (both 00.05).

Tuesday
There’s a double-header between the Mets and the Braves today, so we get an early game to enjoy.  Currently, Tom Glavine is scheduled to take the mound against his former team, with John Maine starting for the Mets.  First pitch is set for 18.00.

Wednesday
Two early games featuring the Bay Area rivals.  The Giants are in Colorado taking on the Rockies, with Jonathan Sanchez and Ubaldo Jimenez listed as the scheduled starters.  That game begins at 20.05 and half an hour later the action starts in Oakland as the A’s face Tampa Bay at the Coliseum.  The six-game winner Andy Sonnanstine (6-1 with a 4.53 ERA) takes on Dana Eveland.

Thursday
Last week we had a choice of nine early games on ‘get away’ Thursday.  This week it’s only three, all coming from the American League.  We begin with a game between two teams that have really disappointed so far this season.  The Mariners and the Tigers meet at 18.05.    Five minutes later, the resurgent Rangers face Livan Hernandez and the Twins in the Metrodome.  The pick of the games starts at 18.35 though, as the finale of the Royals-Red Sox four-game series sees Daisuke Matsuzaka looking to improve his record to 8-0.  Later on, there’s a cracking game in prospect at Turner Field as Johan Santana and Tim Hudson square off from midnight.

Friday
No early games to end the week.

Five’s game on Wednesday night begins at 01.30, while NASN’s MLB schedule for the week can be found here.
