National Baseball League South: Batting stats

by Joe Gray

This is part one of a four-part look at the statistics for the National Baseball League South going into the mid-season break. Part two will be on pitching and will appear on Friday.

Complete sortable, filterable stats can be found here.

Let’s start with home runs, a category currently led by Grant Delzoppo of the Flames, who has four. In a pack one behind are Croydon’s Maikel Azcuy, the Blazers’ Ryan Trask, and Troy Kantor and Mark Rigby of London. Delzoppo also heads the slugging average category with .806, but Alex Malihoudis of the Mets has the best batting average (.500) and the most extra-base hits (nine), while Kantor has the highest on-base average (.574). Three home runs in the last two games for Kantor have seen him soar to the top of the OPS category (1.335). To add to that, he has not struck out once in his 61 plate appearances this season.

Callum Woods, one of London’s crop of talented young players, has executed four successful sacrifice bunts this season, which is the league lead and represents 44% of all those hit this season.
