Welcome to our weekly round-up of the BaseballGB Fantasy League competition.  This is a mixed Head-2-Head league involving BGB writers and readers. 

There are fourteen teams who pair up in different combinations each week, making for seven match-ups in any given week. The teams battle over twelve statistical categories, gaining one point for each category they win.  All the points are carried over into the season league table at the end of the weekly match-ups. The top six teams with the most points at the end of the fantasy season will go on to the playoffs during the last three weeks of September. 

SWAT were the victors in the inaugural BGB Fantasy League last year.  Will they retain their title in 2010, or will a new champion emerge?

With last week’s results leaving plenty of teams bunched together, which sides would break free of the pack and try to challenge JJ at the top?

We start with an 8-3 win for my Isotopes, puting me a game over .500 thanks to a big week with the bats. Ethier (before his injury), Cabrera, McGehee and Dunn all provided plenty of power, although Marcum and Cueto helped Pretzel Vendors take both ERA and WHIP. A WHIP of under 1 takes some doing, so well done to the Vendors.

The Stuff picked up an 8-4 win over Bonestalkers thanks to a clean sweep of pitching categories. Slowey was the only Stuff starter to have a bad week, while Bonestalkers had nice weeks from Longoria, Victorino and Bay to help them take AVG by a single point.

Iron Men jumped up the standings after handing JJ’s Beck ‘Nams a 7-4 defeat. Iron Men took five offensive categories thanks to A-Rod, Uggla and Vlad among others, while JJ’s pitchers, led by Arroyo and Verlander, took four pitching categories.

The Sox picked up a 6-3 win over Borders Bats, taking five offensive categories despite a .249 AVG. Mauer and Butler were the pick of the hitters for the Sox, while Weaver, Lee and a four-save week for Broxton helped the Bats salvage some pitching categories.

There was some excellent pitching in this matchup, but SWAT just got the better of the Spaniards 6-4 as the pitching of Hanson, Kershaw, Kuroda and Pinieiro couldn’t be beaten. Posada, Coghlan, Hughes and three holds from Joba helped the Spaniards.

The Waves edged past Rip It 5-4 thanks to the pitching of Fister and Felix. McCann, Howard and Abreu helped Rip It take three offensive categories.

We end with a 5-5 tie between the Angels and Chasers. The Angels had the better offensive week thanks to Teixeira and Young, but the Chasers had the edge in pitching thanks to Jimenez and Garza.

Rounding things up
 
There have not been any trades as yet, but the Stuff have picked up Grady Sizemore off waivers after SWAT cut him loose.
 
The results mean Beck ‘Nams are now just a game ahead of Iron Men at the top, with Pretzel Vendors and Cheddar Chasers 2.5 and 3.5 games back respectively. My Isotopes are now in 5th, a game ahead of the Stuff. SWAT and the Angels are both 8 games back, with Rip It and the Spaniards close behind. The Sox and Waves are both 10 games back, half a game ahead of Bonestalkers, with Borders Bats currently last.
