Welcome to our weekly round-up of the BaseballGB Fantasy League competition. This is a mixed Head-2-Head league involving BGB writers and readers.Â
There are fourteen teams who pair up in different combinations each week, making for seven match-ups in any given week. The teams battle over twelve statistical categories, gaining one point for each category they win. All the points are carried over into the season league table at the end of the weekly match-ups. The top six teams with the most points at the end of the fantasy season will go on to the playoffs during the last three weeks of September.Â
SWAT were the victors in the inaugural BGB Fantasy League last year. Will they retain their title in 2010, or will a new champion emerge?
Roy Halladay had a perfect game this week, but which manager benefitted from it in the BaseballGB fantasy league?Â

Â
We begin with a big win for the Spaniards, who ran out 9-2 winners over Bonestalkers. Cano, Swisher and Jeter all had big weeks with the bats while Burnett picked up two wins. Despite an uncharactersitically poor week for average, Youkilis scored 8 runs for Bonestalkers. Both of these teams have injuries to deal with and will have to use the DL to help their teams.

Â
The Waves had another good week, defeating defending champion SWAT 8-2 by taking five of six offensive categories thanks to Olivo, Hill and Ordonez. Anibal Sanchez picked up a pair of wins for the Waves, who also got a great start from Jon Lester. Kershaw was the pick of SWAT’s pitchers while Buster Posey’s hot start with the bat bodes well.

Â
JJ’s Beck ‘Nams continued to battle away at the top of the league after a 7-4 win over the Chasers. Pujols’ big Sunday and some power from Rickie Weeks helped Beck ‘Nams while Josh Johnson was a hard luck loser against the perfect Halladay. The Chasers managed to take AVG and OPS thanks to Reyes and Polanco while Guerrier and Gregerson took holds and helped to win WHIP.

Â
The Vendors suffered a setback in the title race after losing 7-4 to Rip It, who took five offensive categories thanks to Rajai Davis and Brandon Phillips, although the freak injury for Kendry Morales is a blow. Marcum, Cueto and Buchholz pitched well for the Vendors, who salvaged three pitching categories.

Another matchup, another 7-4 score, as Iron Men got the better of the Stuff. Despite neither team having great weeks with the bat, Iron Men took five offensive categories thanks to Bruce and Guerrero. The Stuff’s pitchers, led by both Santanas, Oswalt and three holds from Kuo, helped them win four of six pitching categories. Wainwright’s 20Ks and 15 from Ricky Romero helped Iron Men edge strikeouts.

Â
The Sox are in good form, beating my Isotopes 7-4. The Sox had plenty of offense from Carlos Gonzalez and Beltre to take five out of six offensive categories, while Dempster was the pick of the pitchers. Miguel Cabrera was my star hitter, but rough weeks from Haren and Peavy undid good work by Cain and Niemann.

Â
We end with a 6-5 win for the Angels, who edged past the Bats. Rios and Span had big weeks for the Angels, but despite Halladay’s perfecto they couldn’t win ERA or WHIP, as the Bats’ staff of Lee, Weaver and the bullpen put up stingy numbers.

Rounding things up
Â
The results mean Beck ‘Nams have a one-game lead over Iron Men at the top of the table, with the Vendors dropping to three back. The Sox have overtaken my Isotopes by half a game, while the Chasers are also 4.5 back. The Stuff are a game ahead of Rip It while the Waves have closed the gap. The Spaniards’ big win puts them level with the Angels and Bonestalkers, while SWAT is half a game ahead of the Bats at the foot of the standings.
Â
There still haven’t been any trades as yet, with managers content to pick up free agents or promoted prospects, but with some teams dealing with injuries, which sides will be the first to make a deal?
It’s a funny thing about trades – no one seems to want to do any. I’ve put my whole starting pitching up for trade, and haven’t had a single offer.
Oh well…
