We begin with a 9-2 win for my Isotopes, who clinched second place behind JJ after defeating Bonestalkers. Heyward, Werth and Tulowitzki helped take a sweep of offensive categories against an injury-depleted Bonestalkers.

Iron Men cruised into the playoffs, finishing third in the standings with an 11-0 thumping of the Bats, who failed to pitch 20 innings. Sabathia, Rolen and Byrd were the stars of the show for Iron Men.

The Sox picked up a vital win, defeating the Waves 8-2 to put them safely through to the playoffs. Carlos Gonzalez and Curtis Granderson had huge weeks with the bats, while Edwin Jackson was the pick of the pitchers. Felix Hernandez and Hanley Ramirez were outstanding for the Waves.

This left two playoff spots up for grabs and three teams – the Stuff, Vendors and Chasers – fighting for them.

In a nail-biting matchup, which saw four categories which easily could have gone either way, it was the Stuff who made sure of a playoff place with a huge 11-1 win. Dunn, Kinsler and Markakis were the pick of the hitters, with Wagner Valverde and Kuo getting the job done in the bullpen. Pence, McCutchen and Fielder hit well for the Chasers, but the bullpen had a rough week.

 So Matt was left hoping JJ could do him a favour against the Vendors and put the Chasers into the top six …

… but Steve’s boys came through in the clutch, beating the top team 7-2 to secure the last championship playoff place. Holliday, Choo and Infante helped the Vendors take five out of six offensive categories, with Price, Marcum and Cueto all helping to win ERA and WHIP. JJ’s team had nice weeks from Ichiro, Konerko and Carpenter, but can now take a week off with a first round playoff bye.

Last year’s champions SWAT failed to qualify for the championship playoffs this time, but did well to rebound from a slow start. They beat Rip It, who failed to pitch 20 innings, 9-3 thanks to Utley, Zimmerman and Posey.

The Angels ended the fantasy regular season on a high, defeating the Spaniards 7-4 thanks to the bats of Rios, Teixeira and Michael Young and the arm of Sanchez. The Spaniards had a nice two-win week from Happ.

Rounding things up

After an incredible finish to the regular season, the Chasers ended up missing out on a place in the top six by just 1.5 games. It was the closest fantasy playoff race I have been involved in, as usually by this point the top three or four would have already qualified by the final week.

It’s a shame not all of the teams could progress, but all those involved can take pide in being part of a fantastic battle.

But just because the regular season has finished does not mean the fun stops here. After all, it is time for the playoffs!

THE CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFFS:

This week sees four teams battling for two places in next week’s championship semi-finals.

Iron Men (3rd) will face the Vendors (6th), with the winner facing my Isotopes (2nd), while JJ’s Beck ‘Nams (1st) await the winner of the matchup between the Stuff (4th) and the Sox (5th).

THE CONSOLATION PLAYOFFS:

The season isn’t over for the teams in 7th to 12th, as the consolation playoffs start this week.

Matt’s Chasers (7th) are waiting to play the winner of the matchup between the Waves (10th) and Rip It( 11th).

The winner of the Angels (9th) v Spaniards (12th) will go on to face SWAT (8th), who also have a bye this week.

Let the playoff fun begin!
