After a creditable 6-0 loss to baseball giants Cuba yesterday, Great Britain’s second round of the Baseball World Cup continues today with a game against South Korea at the Sportpark Ookmeer in Amsterdam. 

The Koreans lost 4-2 to the Netherlands yesterday at the same venue in front of 3,500 fans, conceding three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to let an early 2-0 lead go to waste.  They managed only five hits against the Dutch and their 3-to-6 hitters went a combined 0-for-14 with one walk.    

South Korea have been one of the top-performing teams on the international circuit in recent years, winning the Olympic baseball tournament last year and narrowly losing to Japan in the World Baseball Classic final back in March.  Although the make-up of international baseball team rosters can vary quite considerably from event to event, any Korean side is going to include plenty of talented ballplayers.  It will be yet another tough test for Great Britain, but one that they should relish.

What’s more, the game is scheduled to be broadcast on Eurosport 2.  First pitch is set for 12.00 BST (13.00 local time).  That’s a bit frustrating for those of us who will be at work, but at least it will allow some Brits to watch the game either live or via a recording later on.  Hopefully the GameTracker will be working on the official World Cup website after yesterday’s disappointing no-show and don’t forget to visit the official GB Baseball team website for a game report later in the day.
