Here’s an interesting little piece of news picked up by MLB Trade Rumours. The A’s Mark Ellis is quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle as saying that he would consider staying with Oakland rather than testing the lucrative free agent market. I’m sure A’s fans all remember Barry Zito’s “it’s not the money, I want to join a winner” comments before he decided that it was mostly about the money after all and signed on with the Giants. One to keep an eye on, at least, as it illustrates the point that each player ultimately has to make up his own mind on what’s best for him and his family. Much as I joke about Zito’s contract, you can hardly blame him for signing it.  He weighed up his options and did what he thought was best at the time. Maybe he regrets it now? Maybe he doesn’t?Â
EDIT: Ellis hit a walk-off grand slam against the Angels last night. Sign him up!
