The bliss of a Bank Holiday: a three-day weekend and then just a four-day working week for most of us.  It’s a welcome period of time to relax and enjoy yourself, and what better way then catching a few ballgames. We’ve got plenty of good games to look forward to this evening alone.  All times are in BST.

Roy Halladay gets his first taste of the Mets-Phillies rivalry with New York putting their eight-game winning streak on the line.  Fellow NL East team the Braves brought a nine-game losing streak to an end yesterday with a 4-2 win over the Astros.  Atlanta got the better of former Philly Brett Myers in a game that Wandy Rodriguez would have started if a back injury hadn’t knocked him off his regular schedule.  Rodriguez goes today instead against Tim Hudson.  Carlos Silva looks to continue his surprisingly good start to the season for the Cubs against Dan Haren and the D-Backs after the two teams combined for 16 runs yesterday (more on that in WHGB on Monday), while Matt Cain takes the mound for the Giants against the Rockies.

In the American League, the Angels will hope Scott Kazmir can reduce his walks (four last time out against the Yankees), pitch a bit deeper into the game (averaging 5 innings per start) and avoid the sort of big inning (8 runs in the fourth) that did for them yesterday against the Tigers. David Price had his best Major League start last time out and will go into his game today against the Royals full of confidence.  The same can’t be said for Javier Vazquez.  Many Yankee fans were less than enthralled to see him return to the team over the offseason and he has not pitched well in his first four starts of the season, meaning patience is in short supply in the Bronx. 

Mariners fans have had to be patient this year in waiting for Cliff Lee’s debut.  He was as brilliant as expected yesterday, but the Rangers responded with some excellent pitching of their own and were able to win 2-0 in 12 innings.  They’ll need a repeat performance today if they want to get the better of King Felix.
