I’m aware that some of you may not be able to watch MLB.TV this year for a variety of reasons out of your control, so apologies for rubbing it in but boy does baseball come back with a bang! Aces are out in force on Opening Day (well, opening days and nights) and the majority of the games are played in daylight, making them perfect for some British evening entertainment.
At 18.05 National league fans can tune in to see Smoltz and the Braves facing Myers and the Phillies, or if the American league is more your scene you can watch Halladay and the Blue Jays against Bonderman and the Tigers. Florida fans can see the D-Train trying to rail road the Nationals, while Yankees fans can find out if Carl Pavano really exists or if he is just a bad dream (with many others looking on to see if Scott Kazmir can conquer the awesome Yankees batting line-up).
Not ready to watch until 19.00? No problem. Perhaps an AL Central clash between the Indians and the White Sox (Sabathia against Contreras) takes your fancy, or maybe the NL Central match-up between Zambrano and the Cubs and Harang and the Reds. Ben Sheets against the Dodgers (with Derek Lowe starting) should be a cracker as well.
21.00? Reigning NL Cy Young winner Brandon Webb takes on Coors field while Red Sox Nation will be tuning in to see their team facing the Royals.
22.30 marks the start time for a battle between two exciting young starters, with the A’s Danny Haren facing King Felix Hernandez. Half an hour later, Johan Santana and Roy Oswalt will lead their teams against the Orioles and the Pirates respectively. Finally, anyone who is still awake (and I can imagine many people will be to excited for sleep!), Kevin Millwood takes on John Lackey at 03.05.
Padres and Giants fans have to wait an extra day before watching their teams for the first time in 2007. Still, watching Barry Zito make his debut at AT&T Park against Jake Peavy (start time = 21.05) should be more than worth the wait. Although it will be a bit painful for me to see Zito in a Giants uniform, even I won’t want to miss it.
Today is one of my favorite days of the year….opening day! I’m a Phillies fan and I can’t wait for the Phillies/Braves game. Should be a pretty good matchup.
Hi Ryan. Tough loss today. I was flicking through MLB Gameday and saw Gordon getting into trouble so I put MLB.TV on to see the ending. Really thought the Phillies would use the momentum of Gordon’s strike out to take the game, especially with Howard and Utley coming up to bat in the bottom of the ninth. Didn’t happen though. Still, an exciting game, and there’s another 161 to go!
Yeah tough loss…especially since I live in Atlanta and I have to hear about it from all the Braves fans. I hope the Phils can take 2 out of 3.
