BSUK fills gaps in national champs archive with nine missing artefacts

The previous BaseballGB article in the Project COBB category demonstrated the historical stretch of the British baseball chronicling initiative by reaching back into the 19th Century, but this latest post illustrates the equally strong focus on recording more recent times.

BaseballSoftballUK (BSUK), the agency overseeing baseball’s development in Britain, has been diligent throughout its existence in retaining artefacts from British baseball history, and many of the digitized holdings on the Project COBB website come from the shelves of Ariel House, where the company is based.

The latest batch of materials that BSUK has been kind enough to scan in and supply (thanks go to Tim and Trevor for the hard work here) comprises nine missing artefacts relating to national finals from the current era of the game. The lists includes programmes from 1998 and 2001 through 2007, as well as a wonderful poster from 2002.

All of the newly added materials can be viewed via the Project COBB national champions archive.

1990s added to Project Cobb’s archive of national champions of British baseball

Cobb (128x128)At the end of 2010, Project Cobb signed off a productive year of baseball history research with the launch of an archive of national champions of British baseball. This is being jointly collated by Josh Chetwynd, Mark Tobin, and me (Mark’s British Baseball Data website already holds a fair chunk of the information presented).

On launch, the archive held information on just the 21st Century. Now, we’re starting to venture back into the 20th Century, with the addition of the 1990s to the archive. Many gaps are already apparent, but I still think it is a very worthy venture. Of course, if you can fill any of the gaps or know someone else who might be able to, then please leave a comment.

Bumper update of Project Cobb’s digital archives adds a dozen programmes and a leaflet

1980_programmeThe latest update of Project Cobb’s digital archives has just taken place, with the additions comprising a dozen old programmes and a leaflet. The years of origin of these various items span a range between 1953 and 1997, which illustrates Project Cobb’s dual mission of restoring the historical record of the game’s more distant eras on British shores while not neglecting the need to ensure that more recent years of play are well chronicled.

Many of these were scanned from items donated to Project Cobb by Brad Thompson (of the Golders Green Sox and London Warriors), who has been exceedingly generous in helping Project Cobb, after initially being kindly put in touch by Michael Osborn.
